Came across this on Twitter. It's about a claim that the driver of the taxi drove dangerously close to a cyclist.

Ignoring that, the cyclist is wondering why the information on the plate has been obscured except for the actual plate number. Seems to be a Glasgow HC and plates, or at least it was at one time.

I'm guessing it's a retired taxi, and the owner wants it to look as authentic as possible.

So he's obscured everything on the plates except the number, which he obviously thinks he can get away with in terms of the law. Of course, if all the information on the plate was displayed, and the cab isn't actually licensed, then that would obviously be illegal.

(Obviously the numbers on the plate are a lot smaller on the front plate than on the rear, but in the high-res photo you can just work out that the number on the front plate is also the 859.)

The letters GAVIN ELLIOTT seem to be displayed on the rear of the vehicle, immediately above the boot hinge. (Or at least the word ELLIOTT is clear, if not the GAVIN.)

The two links below show the photos in higher resolution, although not sure if they're any help, except that the words GAVIN ELLIOTT are a bit clearer.

Anyone have any other ideas as to why they might be doing this?

On the first clip it looks like the Cyclist was taking up more of the lane than he needed to be, had he been a bit over to his left there may have been ample space for the both of them to go merrily on their way.

Thanks, Wanna, but how do you know it was a TfL-plated HC? I could only find the register for the PH licences:

https://tfl.gov.uk/info-for/taxis-and-p ... ce-checker

And, likewise, I did wonder if the word GAVIN was actually something else, and it's certainly not as clear as ELLIOTT. But GAVIN just best guess, and often low-res photos like that can make some letters look clear, but others more blurred, for no obvious reasons :?

Did find this photo below, though, which is presumably the same vehicle, and that looks like a TfL plate in the window. Again, it's a bit blurred, but if I had to guess I'd say 35,911

Of course, there's never been that many HCs in London, so presumably numbers aren't reused, or maybe I'm just wrong about the 3 being the first digit :?

I had to follow one for 20 minutes once, 10mph all the way

mind you her lycra rear end was very revealing

i had room to pass but hey, i was in no rush (my passengers did complain though)
