Hi all

Starting to see a requirement for us to have a carbon neutral policy/goal in place for certain contract tenders.
This is new on us, anyone have any experience of this being asked of them?

No but what they are asking is for you to show proof that you are planning to buy an electric car at some point in the near future because that is the only thing that will convince these short sighted people that you are going green

Electric cars are nor nor will ever be carbon neutral in fact carbon neutral is unachievable under current government strategies

the only way to do it is to develop cleaner fossil fuel burning engines which produce much less CO2 in their manufacture and balance this with carbon carbon capture on a large scale paid for by the government

And that ain't going to happen

Just produce a one page document with a couple of paragraphs detailing how you are going to save up for an electric car when your current vehicle is ready for replacement. It doesn't matter too much what's actually in it because I very much doubt they will actually check on you. You just need to appear to be saying what they want to hear because the people assessing your document will NOT be experts in the subject.

You don't think blockading the refineries is the plan they're looking for then?

There has been a big push by the government recently, I think under Gove.

But I think the tender requirements are for contracts in the millions, rather than the ones our trade does.

That said in a few years' time all there will be is electric or hybrid cars, so in effect, others are doing the job for us.

Clearly if you’re using licensed vehicles then the carbon neutral bit will be taken into consideration when you come to plate said vehicle. Try not to overthink things, stress not
