I have tried to get information on the list of licensed PH operators in my area from the council and they refuse to give me the information quoting the Data Protection Act. Is this kind of information not supposed to be public knowledge, can anyone advise pls. Thanks

For taxi vehicle owners, you can view a list at council premises. I'm not sure if a list of PH operators, they could be right. What you could do is list the ones in the yellow pages, and ask you council if they are licensed by them. It's slightly back to front, but if one police area can't tell another when they have a serial attacker in their mist, then the DPA is an arse of the biggest variety. |

They say if I have an issue with a particular driver then I have to make a complaint but that's not what I'm aiming for. I'm trying to get going in the corporate/exec market contract hire only & just want to make sure I'm on a level playing field as there are others in the area certainly operating without plates yet the counccil say I have to have them. Generally they are rude arrogant and unhelpful, keep paying the rates! |

Up here we the council must keep a register of all licenses, and part of the act says the register shall be open to the inspection of any member of the public at scuh reasonable times and places as may be deterimined by the licensing authority and any member of the public may make a copy therof or an extrac therefrom I thought it would be the same in England, but we do do some things better here

Generally they are rude arrogant and unhelpful, keep paying the rates! I would just write to (or e-mail) the Council Leader or Chief Exec, saying that you wish to inquire if the PH operator you use is licensed by the council, or not. If they don't answer an easy question like that, then something is wrong. |
