Alright lads (and ladies!)

I'm a third year Uni student, studying business. I figured you were the guys to talk to for a bit of help...

For my dissertation this year (a bloody 20000 word essay) I have to write a business plan. I've decided to do it on (and you've probably guessed this by now) a prviate hire firm. Basically want to start my own (pretend of course) firm. I know some stuff about it; but reading some of the conversations on here - need to know little bit more!

I'm working my cashflow out on 50 cars, charging a license fee of £80. Does that sound reasonable - I'm located in Brum. How much does radio equipment cost, and where do I get it from?

Does anybody have any information about the growth of the industry in general over the past few years??!?!?!

Anybody who can help I'd greatly appreciate it.

Is you dissertation for a PHD in insanity. Who in their right mind would want to get into this business unless they were unemployable elsewhere

Flinty,
can see you failing your course if you wanna set up in private hire you lack ambition.

Radios are old hat not efficient, use mobile phones asa palm top computers and get it logged to the office computer.

your licence fee lacks ambition too take a slice of the take say 15% with your meters plugged to the computer, in this way you will be able to cut out the deadwood from your 50 cars and run 36, but attract good drivers to your busy patch.

Your proggrame will cost £7,000 for the set up and the palm tops a fiver a week.

ensure your cars have sat nav be bold.

get tom thumb and andy 7 to contribute, dont run in Birmingham, but wimslow in cheshire where there are no such services and is the barrack quarters of the rich.

if you realy want ambition get some taxis and taxi buses, be like sussex shout and scream until they give you licenses

get advice from Nige about free publicity, he trails the country at every dispute, and the local press and radio always find him.

Stewart at diplomat will find you some cheap programmes if you get stuck you can always ring him on premium phone lines that cost a fortune.

if it goes tits up there is always dusty bin to clear away

Hello again all.

No need to worry about a lack of ambition on my part - genuinely think money to be had in this area; just uninformed at the moment about it all...

Cheers for the help. Palm top computers for a fiver a week - how do I go about finding those...?

£7000 start up ain't bad, guessing need planning permission to operate from home - but not a problem.

Looks like I been caught out on the reason for choosing dissertation in this area then; i'm a sucker for no work!

thanks lads

flinty
