Does any one else have this situation. We need an ordinary enhanced DBS to be licensed by our Council much the same as everyone else but we are now told by the County Council that we need a different enhanced DBS to carry out unescorted school contracts. Our local council can't use the one required by the County Council and the County Council can't use the one form our council so drivers who want to do school transport will need this new DBS and subscribe to the update service for this one as well as the update service for the drivers badge DBS. |

Ask for clarity as to which is needed They wont know Staffordshire decided to introduce their own "contractors" badge for drivers, PA's and office staff took them 2 years to basically duplicate the Licensing procedure the 3 year badge started 2 years before being distributed Quote: DBS checks are criminal record checks conducted by the UK's Disclosure and Barring Service to help employers make safer recruitment decisions. There are four main types—
1. Basic 2. Standard, 3. Enhanced, and 4. Enhanced with barred lists with each level showing more information than the last, depending on the job role. DBS checks are legally required for some positions, especially those involving vulnerable groups, and they help to safeguard the public. |

Lots of places have the same situation - including my own ![]() https://www.local.gov.uk/parliament/briefings-and-responses/school-transport-guidance-note#:~:text=Education%20transport%20authorities%20should%20undertake,the%20licensing%20authority%20if%20required. Education transport authorities should undertake a child barred list check on drivers before issuing a contract. This is essential, as although an Enhanced DBS for a taxi/PHV driver must include a check of both the adult and children barred lists, it is for “other workforce” which is a different category of check from that used for school transport. Licensing authorities should not licence someone on the barred list, however it is good practice for education transport authorities to do this additional check. When awarding a contract, education transport authorities should establish by whom and where a driver is licensed. Drivers do not have to be licensed by their local licensing authority and can be licensed anywhere in the country. It is essential to establish who has licensed a driver to ensure an education transport authority can report a safeguarding concern to the licensing authority if required. |

Madness. I wonder if all these councils would take the same view if they were the ones paying for it. |
