I know one or two people do not expect to see a new Taxi Act in our lifetimes, but if some changes could be achieved , what would your suggestions be. and I don't mean deregulation....

Whats the bets the ideas section will be notably void of suggestion  save that of 'we don't want tinkering we want new legislation' (and then failing to state what the new legislation should consist of)

Well here's one suggestion in the interests of public safety.

The term private hire operator is changed to 'operator' and hackney carriages are embodied into 'operator licensing'.

They all have the Euro?

I kind of think we're stuck with what we've got...people have been mooting new legislation for 20 odd years, facing facts its going to be a long time coming and the 'tinkering route' may simplfy things.

Is that all you have to offer just the one suggestion?

I know your objective is plain to most but perhaps in the interest of those that don't understand what you're trying to achieve any chance you could spell it out and then tell us how you would word the changes?

This is not a trick question by the way? lol

I have some suggestions, but these will be forwarded to my NTA director and perhaps taken on board when stakeholders meet?

Making an attack on taxi/PH drivers and/or operator staff an aggravated offence.

Take the day to day running of the taxi/PH trade away from councillors. They haven't got a f***ing clue, cos if they did they wouldn't be councillors.

But getting away from that slightly, is a department run by an amateur without qualification any better?

What changes would the Sefton Taxi and Private hire trade like to see?

Considering the NTA has been around for quite some time in its capacity of representing a section of the Taxi trade what changes would those affiliated to the NTA, like to see? Surely these people must have thought of many changes that are needed to current legislation? Perhaps they prefer to keep their thoughts secret in case the majority don't agree with them?

And what about the T&G? No doubt one of their pet changes would be every licensed Taxi had to have a turning circle of 25ft?

In so far as I am aware, there is a pretty open book in so far as what the proposals maybe, I cannot foresee and contentious points that any right minded person would disagree on.

The T&G policy you refer to would be highly debatable , as it conflicts with the NTA policy of freedom of choice of vehicles.

But that isnt the point surely....its a question of finding out what people agree on and taking it forward from there?

Only last week the NTA supported the NPHA on one major issue, hopefully other stakeholders will support this line.

I see, so you mean this tinkering with legislation is a new phenomenon attributed to 2006? What about previous years? Did it take the NTA decades to realise that it could tinker with legislation rather campaign for a completely new cab act? And what about your independent view as a Taxi driver is that held hostage to the NTA? I was under the impression you had resigned from the Carlisle TOA but surely your own independent points of view are not subject to censorship from the NTA?

No wonder you said,

Whats the bets the ideas section will be notably void of suggestion (and then failing to state what the new legislation should consist of)

You never mentioned that it might be your contribution that is void of suggestions. Apart from the item regarding operators but then it still wasn't made clear what you actually wanted and how it would be worded in order that it doesn't leave a massive loophole or make plying for hire more restrictive?

I cannot really speak for what the NTA did in the past. But I personally believe the only way the trade is going to move forward is via dialogue with others.

Do you not think it is a good idea that the trades move forward in this way?

As for the TOA in Carlisle, I am still a member, but I am no longer on the committee, enjoying a much needed break from local politics (I might add!)

My contribution will be through my association, as will others.

Regarding the radio operators license, its reasonably obvious that hackney carriages should at some stage be encompassed into regulations (although that is my own view and nobody elses).

I can see your point about radio operators but I don't agree with it. The next thing you know is that we will all have to write down the name and address of every person we pick up off the street or at a Taxi rank. Plus it will more than likely have the effect of negating the Gladen judgement which in turn would hinder inovation.

I'm not for living inthe dark ages therefore Inovation is the last thing I wan't to hinder,
