Further to this thread: http://taxi-driver.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5275 Cheshire County Council it appears, insist that door signs are removed/Covered up, from their contract vehicles. So along with the fact that nowhere does it say in LGMPA that a licenced PHV must be contracted to an operator, how then can Warrington LA insist on PHV displaying door signs at all times (this isnt stated in any bye laws just stated by the LO). Does this mean i'm unable to do contract work for my County Council because my Borough Council Licencing Officer insists (on threat of suspension) that they must be displayed at all times??
Who's right?? |

Noooooooooooooooooo, i dont want to! i just want to be able to driver my licenced PHV without my door signs when i'm not working. I've already angered our LO by telling him i'm not on a system at the moment so what signs does he want me to display? all he answered was "put your door signs on" 3 times i told him i 'm not on a system and 3 times he told me to "put my door signs on" At he moment ive removed my plates to satisfy him, but i dont see why i should have to.
He's basically saying that you cant drive a licenced PH unless your contracted to an operator and displaying that operators dorr signs! |

where did you get your info from regarding cheshire make you cover your signs ? ive been doing cheshire contracts for 6 yrs and when i was a phv had the cars sign written and it was never a problem with cheshire in fact every phf in crewe have cheshire work and all are sign written ! which is a legal req of crewe & nantwich council ,magnetic signs not allowed even though a few vehicles are flouting this you say you are a phv but not in a system so i take it you have your own operators license if you dont and are not in a system then you cant be a phv or take contracts or any work of any kind ,i think you should be very careful with your lo has they seem correct in what they are saying ,no operators license of your own or not in a system means your not a phv if you aint doing either you have to take your plates off and for gods sake dont work your car they will throw the book at you

you say you are a phv but not in a system so i take it you have your own operators license if you dont and are not in a system then you cant be a phv or take contracts or any work of any kind ,i think you should be very careful with your lo has they seem correct in what they are saying ,no operators license of your own or not in a system means your not a phv if you aint doing either you have to take your plates off and for gods sake dont work your car they will throw the book at you ![]() I dont do cheshire work personally, i got the info second hand, but its more to do with the fact that the LO insists that i display door signs even though i'm not working or on a system. So what your saying is, to have a licenced PH apart from having a licence (obvious) you also must have an operators licence or at least be assigned to an operator? I dont agree with you on this. But i dont know know if i'm right!! |

you can have a licenced PH yes,but your council insist its a phv only if it displays the door signs with your number and advanced bookings only, which i believe is the same as here in crewe ,it has to be a local number ie not a mobile ,to put your home number on then you need to be a operator and obtain a licence ,its against the councils ruling to have phv plates and no door signs ,your in a catch situation has you havnt worked recently and arnt in a system but your vehicle must of been carrying phv plates which the lo is saying no way ,if i was you id remove the phv plates take them into the council explain your not working a system at the moment hence no door signs ,if your not working the car the plates are no good to you really so ask them to keep them for you until your ready to work again ,you wont have the hassle of being reported for being plated with no door signs and im sure the council will be happy knowing theyve got your plates while your not working so you cant tout for work with out being in a system ,the other opition is get a hackney

if you are a 1 man band you need a operators licence and you still need door signs stating private hire advanced bookings only with your local code telephone number hence the lo not being a happy bunny
