Post subject:  need some advise
Can anyone help me

I have a hackney/privatehire and a operators licence

I want too know if i can insure my private car for exectutive hire (just to do the odd airport or long distance job)

I don't want to have to pay out £1,000 plus just for the odd job

Do i need to get the car plated?

If you use a vehicle for Hire and Reward, it needs a license and insurance. What you advocate is a cowboys charter.

I hope you take on board the advice you get (apart from "you know who")

You can untill Jan 1st 2008.

Then the only executive hire will have to be done by a licensed PH/taxi/PSV. :wink:

Not formally known as "T", currently known as T.
You asked a question and I answer in good faith. If everyone who wanted to do the odd airport run was allowed to do it without insurance or licensing the the motorways would be clogged with old cortinas and granadas "just" doing the odd run. Thats what I meant by a cowboys charter. If you are going to use avehicle for hire and reward you will need the appropriate documents.
2 points I will add; as you asked the question I assume that you were looking for a way to save money and still do the jobs, a loop hole because you almost certainly know what is required legally. Secondly if you were any sort of responsible operator you would not risk breaking the law based on the advice you found on a public forum.
Don't take the risk for temporary monetary gain and don't take advice from the likes of us go to an expert.
I have tried very hard to feel insulted by the other poster's very personal comments but have been unable to; to feel insulted implies some creedence to the person making the comment, but he knows no better.

The contract hire exemption is a fact of life, like it or lump it, until next year at least.

That's why Mr G5 was given the facts, and why TDO campaigned to have the exemption repealed, which it duly will be :D

He didnt advocate anything, he did the correct thing and asked for advice.
But as usual you jump in with both feet and throw accusations about.
Your obviously quite informed despite your attitude, why didnt you give a reasonable reply and give the bloke the advice he sought instead of calling him a cowboy?

I did not call him a cowboy, I think most people would understand what I meant. But for the hard of thinking I will explain.
If the fact you only do a few trips a year was a valid excuse for not having the correct insurance etc, then all the idiots out to make a quick buck would use it, therefore any work you do for hire and reward needs to comply with the regulations.

Contract excemption does not allow you to use a vehicle for hire and reward without insurance cover for that purpose. MrG5 is probabley well aware of the contract exemption rule and he did not mention contracted work in his question so unless he has a contract he would need a license as well as insurance. Executive hire means nothing. He asked about using his PRIVATE CAR for hire and reward.

If you read what Mr G5 asked at the outset then you'll be aware that he was intending insuring the car - if I can paraphrase his original question he was asking whether he could use an insured motor for hire and reward without it being plated.

The answer to his question is thus 'yes'.

Your initial reply was:

Now you're saying:

Contract excemption does not allow you to use a vehicle for hire and reward without insurance cover for that purpose.

So you CAN use a vehicle for hire and reward without a licence.

When you made your first statement you either hadn't a clue or were just trying to be akward since otherwise you would have mentioned that he could use the car unplated under the contract hire exemption.
