| Post subject: | Stretch Limo's |
Further to the threads re the Stretch Limo's illegal operations around the UK, I have just lost a driver who has joined a local operator at a bigger rate, working less hours and getting almost double the pay. It's time they were outlawed to protect the licensed PH trade. Those that agree please respond |

I don't think you will find many people disagreeing with you, either on here or the real world. Perhaps you should forward any info to your local licensing officer and ask him/her why Aberdeen and the Devon council deem them illegal, but locally a blind eye is turned. |

I don't think there is enough money out there for me to drive one of those things when empty, let alone filled with a dozen or so idiots. |

Many thanks. I think quite a few.
When I was looking into this mess I was surprised at how many there were. Try a google search, but London definately do and someone posted this on TDO the other day http://www.luxuryamericanlimos.co.uk/ . |

If you have a few mins then have a read of this stretch limo court case. http://www.bailii.org/cgi-bin/markup.cg ... method=all Its a bit confusing but I think it says that it doesnt matter how many seat belts you have its the size of the seats that decides if you are a 8 seater or not. I also think it says that stretch limos cant be licensed as PSVs. |

I know I'm going off target a little but, if they have fare paying passengers shouldn't they be licensed in some way and the vehicle tested? |

I was talking to a mechanic today from the RAC about these stretch limos, he said they are not made for British roads, he had one incident last year where 1 suffered a broken chassis due to the load he was carrying. His words were, when I see one of those things in front of me I get rid of him ASAP, he commented on the steering mechanism or lack of, how many turns are there in America? How many roundabouts are there? How many speed bumps? It all adds up to a disaster waiting to happen. |
