Why do i ahve to pay £30,000 to take people from A to B, while taxis in adjoining areas can buy a £10,000 Skoda. Or PH can buy a shed for a grand or two?

Customers don't give a dam, as long as they get home. :(

Thank U for telling me what I can do. But I asked why I must do something that cost me £20,000 more than the lads doing the same job. Sometimes wityh the same customers, 4 miles away.

you are wrong you dont have do anything you are a free agent.

if you want to do the job follow the rules where you want to do it.

i just dont understand youre moaning i feel we really every single one of us cabbies should be made to purchase the london black cab style of vehicle as that is what it is coming to because of this wheelchair rule also if every cabbie up & down the country had this type of vehicle when a girl or somebody comes out of the night club then they will recognise a lawfull taxi & because of thje hackney licence rules they should feel safe
anyone with a car can pick up a single drunk female & god forbid assault & rape

There are at least two trains of thought on your idea pinkwheels. The one you have and the one many Hackney saloon drivers will have. Your idea of adopting the highest qaulity controls of all is echoed by many. There are some councils that believe and indeed put into practice your sugestion that the London Black Cab is the only true Taxi vehicle. However, there are probably more councils throughout the country that licence saloon cars as hackneys than licence the traditional Black cab.

You put forward a very interesting point, a point to which i'm sure many Hackney carriage Saloon car drivers may disagree. I'm sure they will put up a robust defence for keeping the hackney carriage status of the saloon car. I might also point out, that there may be many Traditional black cab drivers who also disagree with your point.

It is not the Saloon drivers fault that their council in the past have preffered saloon cars over other types of vehicles. However, on the face of it all that seems to be slowly changing.

It may be the case in years to come that the typical saloon car as we know it will no longer be licensed. We can already see the effect the DDA legislation is having on saloon vehicles. Many Councils around the country are ammending their position on licensing this type of vehicle.

I doubt very much that you will see just one type of vehicle, namely the one you sugest, there are increasing options of vehicle choice which are becoming freely available to councils.

I'm sure you have injected a reasonable talking point because there may be many that disagree with it.

Best wishes

JD

Yes John You are right

the London cab was not designed for England it was designed suprisingly for London.

Flat, Busy, noisy, bustling,London.

in the middle of the pennines where one is constantly climbing hils, going down then climing again as you cross valley to valley the Aunties have a single atribute the steering circle.

they are heaviy, slow, impersonal and bloody expensive.

and they are difficult for those who have worked outdoors in the most severe weather to get in and out,

where would you like to spend your life if you were wheelchair bound?

the sea side? in the rural belt where there is lovely sights ? or in London?
the London cab was never built with wheelchair accessible in mind, just an opportunity taken to help sales and rule out other vehicles.

in the future we can expect many changes to the london cab, not for us but to meet the requirement of the chineese.

Geoff

I found a classic example of taxi drivers doing their dammdest to stop going over to WAVs.
http://www.bedford.gov.uk/bedford/connc ... _oct02.pdf

This council that restricts the number of taxis to approx 55, but has over 300 PHs, is perhaps evidence of how not to run a licensed taxi/PH trade. Unless of course you are one of the chosen view, supported by the T&G.

The council stated that they will go 100% WAV for taxis, even gives a time limit. However when the existing trade allow their vehicles to deterioate to a state where the council is embrassed by them, what happens?

The council just back down and reward those that let the trade down.

How the existing trade have got the neck to have a recent pop at the PH trade, I don't know. But no-doubt they have a good T&G membership.
