I doubt if any council will license a vehicle with less than four doors. But some will make exceptions from the general rules for things like fire engines and the like, at least as PHVs. There are probably one or two that might consider it as a PHV, but not a taxi. |

Don't Liverpool, Bristol and Leeds license motorbikes as PH? Surely they only license them for one passenger. Alex |

Yes, they're used in London I believe. You can also licence a motorbike for hire and reward if you wanted. Some councils might not like it but I can't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to. |

Interesting question MEG. I was thinking along these lines about 18 months ago. We work from a station rank and 90% of our fares are one person with minimal hand lugguage. Was thinking of asking my council to ammend its specifications. Then talked to our fitter who pointed out that a meter, data box, radio were going to put a big enough strain on the 600cc engine and its battery. Add the air con and 17 stone average driver and it became a no no. |
