 Post subject: Student Airport Runs

Does anyone else on here have to do what my firm does on these runs?

Not only are they cheap runs, but we have to take the kids to the checking desks, check them in and then take them to immigration.

Doesnt the Language school have a duty to them?

No. Because like you we don't have to do anything, but we can choose to agree to whatever we please.

I think jobs such as these can be a nightmare. But as Tom says, nobody forces anyone to do them.

They are often quoted very cheaply, can involve multiple pick-ups, dropping at various terminals, when you could easily earn the same working your town.

I would also say that a number of these schools often use un-licensed vehicles, which perhaps answers your duty question. :sad:

We do these runs for a school and a college.
the deal we have is the price of the cut price run + we can put the meter on for waiting time at £12 per hour.+we get airport charges and a meal after 4 hours

if they want the job doing properly they will pay, if they want it doing badly
theres loads round here that will only to willing to oblige and they know it.

your firm is getting more than you think for this job, they just are not done on a tight rope, you are acting in a legal position known as loco parentis.

if you are not paid well tell em to stick it.

by the way yes the school does have a responsibility to them, and you are carrying that responsibility.

How many people understand vicarious liability and how far that effects you as a ph/hack driver?

Are you insured for it.

This has always been at the back of my mind.

But my broker has said many times, and I believe I have it in writing somewhere, that all the time we are working, we are covered for liability.

That includes helping old dears into their houses, and I think this was one of the reasons I asked, wheeling WAV customers in and out of the motor, and in and out of their homes.

yes my broker tells me the same Sussex, but I often wonder is sitting in the airport with a juvenile waiting for 5 hours for a plane legitimate hackney drivers duties or is it babysitting?

and if one of these sweet little nothings escapes and does some damage what will my insurers think.

the school told me last year that the local private hire would do the job more cheaply, my reply?

by all means let them have it! do you trust them with locoparentis?

on seccond thoughts you do a good job, to joe who started this thread, I wouldnt do it for any less than I get.
