Honest this refers to my mate not me my life is somewhat quieter lol.....

Well he works in another area (South Northants) who in fact work on the border of a place called Milton Keynes. Anyway he tells me that the south northants private hire company he works for have been given the green light from South Northants that ALL South Northants minicabs (PH) can park and rank where they like even if they have no prebooked job and also if they are approached by a customers to call the job in and take them and then its all legal. (They all work in MK due to there base location)

I have told my mate not to do this!. The second issue is Milton Keynes are still prosecuting all drivers for doing the above but how can two councils differ?

I spoke to MK and they said their view is this is illegal and that they are continue to prosecute, even went as far as to say they regularly enforce and alos use CCTV and undercover customers to catch people...

I asked about south northants officers advice but MK would not comment just saying its illegal and other council opinions may differ but MK are clear on this......

Sorry for my spelling!

Whats your views?

There are around 400 councils in the UK, and they all differ.

i worked on a circuit in one LA area owned by a guy who had worked in a neighbouring area, so, half the cars (hackneys) would be based "over the border" as he had loads of calls from "over the border", we usually parked up on a pub car park, we never took jobs off the public there, only over the radio so i dont think we broke any rules.

we were also cheaper in the area we were (basically) "poaching" in..

councils make it up as they go along anyway...

Case law takes a different view to the South Northants Licensing officer, if indeed he did actually say what you say he said.

not sure on that one, its third hand after all so I take it I am right that he should not do this? and it is illegal

Yes in my humble opinion you are right but I think my good friend Sussex might disagree in the execution of the booking request, if the request wasn't for an immediate hire?

IMO as long as it goes through the operator, and the details are taken as per the local operator requirements, then a booking could be as near immediate as a few seconds.

Now clearly that's open to abuse, and in some areas that abuse is rife, but that's my considered verdict. :D
