 Evening all,can anyone throw some light on this dsa driving test that we are having to take in guildford,is it law that this has to be taken or can this be fort,Ive just had to hand my cab back due to the delimitation that has happened in guildford,i tried to continue but it got to the point that paying 650 quid a month for me tx that ive just had to give it up,but i still wish to show an interest in the trade as an advisor to my collegues and this is an issue i believe that could be challenged...

If it improves standards and weeds out some of the numpties, why fight it?
You imply from your post there are too many cabs in Guildford already. Should at least make it harder to get a badge.

its a bit late to fight in reality but was just interested, but we have an extra 57 cabs at it really has taken its toll, the council relaxed the knowledge test due to the influx of private hire applications.ie: home to school run drivers having to sit a knwledge test just to do the school run, council has gone mad and there is no federation anymore as it seems everyone has got the attitude that "we will see when it happens".

that may help, a previous thread on here.

I suppose some kind fellow on here will advise you of the progress of the situation in Bournemouth and the BTEC's (or whatever), the scenario seems similar, the local authority using a particular section of the act as part of a request for information as to establish whether or not the applicant is 'fit and proper'.

You can challenge anything, but you will have to ask yourself if a court will deem it unreasonable of a council to insist that their licensed drivers have driving qualification. :?

IMO having the DSA taxi test leads to less folks becoming licensed drivers.
