Nice to see Mansfield got a mention

Last night the local rag continued its attack on councillors granting convicted criminals a license to drive both H/C and P/H vehicles. It transpires that an urgent meeting was convened by the licensing committee to discuss the Manchester Evening news revelations. The licensing committee came up with the following proposals, they can be read here.

Just a personal note to say that I've always been a firm believer that every case should be judged on its own merits. I believe the bar should be raised higher for sex offenders than some other offences but the recent case in Plymouth of Mr Brown shows that licensing bodies don't always get it right in the eyes of the law.

I think blanket bans of any sort are liable to be chucked out by the courts.
There may be a good reason in this case, but councils aren't meant to fetter their descretion.

I think your right about the courts. The council have put themselves in an awkward position by proclaiming they are pre-judging a section of society before they have even had a hearing. I think they will back track on that statement once they have studied the legal implications.
