3. PRIVATE HIRE
3.1 Saleem Mohammed, 144 Sandford Grove Road, Sheffield
Pleaded guilty at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on 30th April 2008 to 11 offences which were committed during 2006 and 2007; 4 contrary to the Fraud Act 2006, the defendant had in his possession, a set of private hire vehicle licence plates issued by Birmingham City Council which he displayed on his unlicensed vehicle to gain work as a private hire driver, 3 remaining offences related to false representations made to Five Star Cars. He produced a false private hire drivers licence, a false private hire vehicle licence and a false certificate of insurance to make a gain for himself by obtaining work as a private hire driver; 3 offences were contrary to the Theft Act 1968; 2 of obtaining a pecuniary advantage by a deception, namely by producing a copy of a forged private hire drivers badge to an Operator and dishonestly obtaining the opportunity to earn remuneration as a private hire driver, the remaining offence related to his possession of the forged badge which he used in the course of a cheat, namely to take passengers to destinations for reward; 1 offence contrary to the Forgery and Counterfeiting Act 1981 of using a false instrument, a private hire drivers badge, with the intention of inducing others to accept it as genuine; 1 offence contrary to the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 of knowingly acting as the driver of a private hire vehicle when he was not licensed; 1 offence of plying for hire in Kent Street on 15th December 2006 and the remaining offence of having invalid insurance. The case was committed to the Crown Court for sentence, which was imposed on 3rd June 2008.
