My own experience is not disimilar to Mr Guest apart from we have designed our own slip for credit cards payment in the cars.

I have to say I am amazed and horrified that you let drivers 'blow back' the number to the office. I certainly would not let my credit card details be shouted across an open radio frequency.

Mr Guest if you would like to register and pm me I will send you a copy of the form and tell you where they are produced.

Terrifying

Knowing how many taxi drivers eavesdrop on other taxi companies, or how many sacked drivers hang on to their radios, the whole business of broadcasting spoken credit card details is just not on!

Security is one of the reasons that a company installs a data system - no-one can listen in.

Why not use scrambled radios? Cheaper than going data.

True, but you can't dunk your toast in them.

Hi
Depending on what method is used, people may still be able too listen to the conversations. There is plently of software around which gets past some of the simple scrambling systems in use.

Can you check your credit card slip again, and see if Halfords did actually charge you that extra percentage? Because I have noticed the same on Dixons and PC WOrld receipts, but have never actually been charged any extra on the advertised price.[/quote]

If you read the slip it actually says that you agree to permit 'Halfords to pay a percentage of the total charged to you to 'X' credit card company - not that you pay any extra charge. No I do'nt understand it either

I think it's to do with the VAT.

But I haven't a clue what? :?

Helpful to a tee. :D

Aaaaaaaaaaaahhh !!!! That makes sense Andy Suss.

If I charge you £1,000 for something, and there is £148.90 of VAT in it, then if I deduct 10% as being Finance Charges, only 900 is subject to VAT thus I save myself £14.89 on each sale that I don't have to give to the VATman because its zero rated!!!

Clever wheeze.

Now, how can we apply this to Taxi fares?

(Got me thinking now)

Pco charges, does not apply, private hire you see.

Charge what ever you like, providing it is fixed.

Real time does not exist in anything, be it sent accross radio or moible phones, there will always be area's where there is no coverage.

GPS in real time is never going to be an option either. It would be like a driver sitting on the PPT mic, nobody else would be able to get through. I am sorry whoever thinks the mobile phone company's will stand for this is mad.

Is the whole industry stupid, or just looking for an advance in technology that does not exist. So they are inventing one?

Possibly they are just rying to supply customer demand, but sometimes there is no point as the customer does not need this confussing rubbish.

What is the point in having pin & chip technology, in the vehicles if the guy can still be dropped off at the airport, loose his card and report it stolen, this only works 100% if it is in real time. You could still be accused of being the person that stole it, if you are not careful, as his pin number will be downloaded from your office to the terminal later than the time it was reported lost/stolen. No legs to stand on here.

With regards to SilverCab their name is. All your credit card payments going into someone elses account before it goes into yours, are you mad?

Sorry, but that had to be pointed out, as if you you even give those customers of yours an incline they can pay by card, regardless of any surcharge then that is the way in which they will want to pay. Did you not notice the whole county is living on credit, a trillion in debt, saw it on TV.

Perfectly fine if it is corporates, but what about those guy's you are collecting from the pub?

Ripped off and serverley, comes to mind here.

God I hope you do not think I am stating the obvious, this is my first time on here today, and I am enjoying it, still unsure if I know what I am talking about fully though, willing to learn.

What do you think?
