finally got myself the machine of my dreams, a vdo satnav ms 5400, and its worth every last penny, on my first night using it i added 50 percent to my daily takings which is damn good. I know lots of guys are going for tom tom and similiar machines, but imo, better saving few more pounds and getting something that actually works the way its meant to,,

not heard of that one before. How much? less than the £412 tom-tom?

i looked at the VDO website but its a little cluttered with lots of different models, which one did you get?

does it work the same?

Seems like a nice machine, the only drawback though is that if your car is off the road and you have to use another car you cannot take the machine with you unlike a machine like the Tom Tom Go where you can take it out within a minute and use in another car.

Just out of interest, how come your takings went up by 50% on the first night you used it?

you'll alway earn more if your going straight to the pick up instead of getting lost on the way and stopping and looking at the map to find the street, and then wasting another few minutes trying to find the right house number.

Not unless you knew where you are going before you bought a sat nav.

well yes, but i think i read before that trigot, only know a few parts of his large city. and any help getting to a part of the city your not 100% is welcome.

i'm even considering buying a Tom-Tom cos theres areas of my city im not too sure on even now. The great thing with tomtom is that you can even plot in a house number and it will take you there. that would save me time trying to find numbers in the dark and rain.

I sent my Tom Tom back.

Didn't realise he worked in a city, I work in a town which is a totally different ball game. I'd be using a sat nav if I worked in a city aswell.

I got the MS 5400 unit, there were 2 , a dvd based and cd rom,,i went for cd rom as the only difference is the the amount of info a cd can hold as opposed to a dvd. The unit is astounding,,it runs a 64 bit processor chip which is exremely fast at calculating routes. Excellent mapping by navteq and / or tele atlas,,.
We had a few lads round last night wanting to `test` the unit out,,so we came up with names of very hard to find lanes, streets etc,,,,it performed 101 percent,,and im proud to own it. Also the reason i increased my takings is that i was limiting myself to working a few select areas of this city,,now it meant i could go anywhere,,and i did,,so its paying off ok,,also less stressful cos u dont need to stop check, stop check a-z all night,,lol,,

steveo mate,, all sat nav units now adays have house number, finding etc,,difference is how it performs in doing that. The tom tom for a start is a gps unit only,,but thats it, the first time you are in a heavily built up area or city centre . town,,etc, you will know what i mean,,you lose the sat tracking,,then you better have an a-z handy,,. The vdo i have has electronic compass and also has the car pulse connected to it,,which means if you lose gps,,the unit `dead reckons`` you to your destination,, its also very avery accurate, which i have been told the tom tom is not,,,i paid 1200 pounds but i consider it a shrewd investement rather than wasting a few hundred on the other systems on the market.

the reason our Eric that sat nat does not work in London according to the experts is that the buildings are tall and close together and the bounce from satelites is not possible
