keep your £3.00 start then £1.50 a mile don't forget diesel is around £1.40 a litre then there insurance and servicing
How much does it cost per person on a bus to go a mile times it by 4 and you will have the right price

On a different front, and combining two separate threads.

Are you really expecting drivers to work for you for 40p a mile? :?

Even volunteer drivers get more than that, in fact they get double as they also get paid for the miles with no passengers in.

40p a mile? wot u on about? if they do a minimum fare job(3 quid) its a pound to them for a mile if punter gives them 3.50 its 2 to me 1.50 for them :P :P on a 2 mile job wot i wud say is about average round our way fare wud be 4.20(if punter gives them 4.50)its 1.70 to them and 2.80 to me its not bad for the drivers who av got zero outlay! :-| does that sound so bad?

In most places the drivers get a split bag of ether 50/50 or if you want to keep them pay them 60%
Going on your other thread if you pay for everything they become employees so the min wage comes into it along with tax and insurance and holiday pay and sickness pay

Well I went by the old fashion view that a third of £1.20 was 40p.

Your easiest and most consistent way, would be to fit a meter.

You can use it as a 'guide' and discount from there, which punters will like as they feel they are getting a bargain - in this climate, a company that 'discounts' is favourable. The punter doesn't care about or understand the difference between PH/Hacks. Just want the cheapest looking ride home.

You could also have your own rate - as long as it doesn't exceed the LA's rate - have a word with your LA and they can advise you on these options. Different areas have different rules.

Meters do remove confusion, and take away the risk of conflict through price differences on the same run - all it takes is a diversion, and a drunk may decide to challenge a few pounds difference - on the other hand, you may do it for the same price and end up losing out. Do that too often and you are giving your profits away.
