A mobile phone...have them phone you when at the door out.!
It was amazing how many got of the plane with a flat battery, and even if they let you know, because you couldn't be certain when they would be ready to get in the car it meant you hanging around for an hour or more nearby which you didn't get paid for as they were fixed price jobs or risk being late and having tired grumpy passengers.
