That is the answer to communicating between cars. I would be interested in your ballpark price for that? I reckon two sim cards with cut price 'family and frends deal' would be a better bet to start with.

Now he has the problem of receiving incoming phone calls on a call divert costing him money.

For that you have to get your customers ringing or texting your mobile.

Text would be good, you could send a confirmingtext if you liked.

Hi

Tom is right there is a diference between the cost of communicating with drivers and how much it costs to have a BT landline diverted to your mobile.

The answer for me was to pay someone to answer the phone and allocate the jobs when I was not in the office. :D

No point in looking at other landline networks either as BT has a monopoly on the "call divert" facility. Offtel are supposed to addressing this but after six years this situation has not changed.

I have looked at everything boxes that reduce call charges and the like but at the end of the day nobody can reduce the cost of diverting your landline to your mobile except yourself.

For me as I got busier it was more economical to pay someone to sit by that landline rather than divert it especially when you are busy, as all you will do then is to pay top dollar just to tell the punters you have nothing available or be paying for the privilage of having the call lost because it went to your mobile's voice mail. Then have to pay again to retrieve it even if the punter has not actually left any messages. :?

Nice to see Bill and Radioman are still true to form and are still trying to flog their antiquated two way radio systems on the forum as usual.

Where as Bigj555 would be better off with two baked bean tins and a peice of string than the c**p those two try to peddle on this site.

Why not blind us with science guys :?:

Suggesting repeaters and such like is just a nonsense, how do you know where he is even based and if they will even work. :?:

Sorry guys the days when you could sell high band radio's for example to a new company, before you knew which frequency the DTI would issue are far gone in the past now.

Mobile phones are here and they are here to stay. try telling your customer that once they have purchased those radio's which can only be used on THAT repeater and nowhere else that they have just wasted a bundle because they now need to go to data and by the way repeaters do not support data that they now have to pay again, you might just a slap.

Long overdue dudes 8)

Take care Eric

Eric the Viking

You know Eric, I reckon your just about the rudest person on this forum. I don't come here to sell anything and I defy you to point out any of my posts where you I'm touting for business. I'll try to give advice to help people out when they have any technical questions but that's where it ends. I don't even sell radios for heavens sake but I do know of many companies that have removed perfectly good and working equipment and who would be only too happy to be put in contact with someone starting up.

I'm a full qualified and respected radio engineer and although you may think I talk a load of c**p (your words) I believe that's just your negative view on the radio industry in general.

As for supplying equipment before the licence is issued, my company has never done that and again I would defy you to prove otherwise.

As for radios that only work on repeaters, well I've never come across any that do that?

A radio that will only work on one repeater? I've never heard of one of those either???

And finally, a radio that works on data will work perfectly well through a voice repeater.

So Eric, yet again you’re talking a load of nonsense. If you really don't know what you’re talking about, then seriously, why bother.

Bill :)

Because he is trying to wind up both you and RM.

For the record, I think both you and PM do a sterling job on here, and if you do make business contacts via this site, then good luck to you.

I very much doubt the lads behind the site mind one little bit.

If you really were you would not tell lies about being able to carry data accross a repeater, there is no data facility on a repeater and you would know this if what you say about yourself is correct, ok :?: where is it carried :?: on the control chnnlel :?: yeah right

Eric the Plonker

1 No I haven't. I've been in this business for over thirty years and if I haven't come across any in that time then they must be about as rare as your brain cells.

2 You might think not but I know for a fact that they do as several of my customers use repeaters on their voice channel as opposed to landlines. Read you own post Eric you said that a radio that could work through a repeater wont work on data.

3 I don’t tell lies Eric That's why I said your a plonker! I never said data could be sent through a repeater because that would be completely misleading. As it happens though, we do have one site that runs through a repeater but it's not a conventional repeater and uses high rate digital signalling for the control.

4 I don't want to slag you off Eric, I don't need to do I, you make a good job of it yourself every time you post your misinformed babbling.

I think your getting a bit confused maybe an age thing. A repeater as used in the taxi trade is a simple system and was well described by Radioman. My guess is that you’re thinking of trunked radios, which use a network of special repeaters. They look the same but are neither use nor ornament to the taxi trade. Plonkers buy them on Ebay for a fiver then when they find out they’re no good they become experts on the subject and go onto forums to advise others.

You really do set yourself up Eric. Keep it coming it's the best laugh I've had for ages.

Bill :)
