Here’s what a local council just sent to one of my customers wanting to erect a small taxi antenna on the roof of their office.

Please supply..blah blah blah...

5. A polar plot in the horizontal plane of the estimate field (w/metres sq) including any pre-existing background from other transmitters, including those from other locations and operators. Background could be estimated or measured.

6. A polar plot in the horizontal plane of the estimated percentage of the national limit that the transmitter will give rise to, including any pre-existing background from other transmitters, including those from other locations and operators. Background could be estimated or measured.

7. If the field is likely to be substantially different at building height, plots should also be provided at a suitable height (e.g. top-floor level)

8. All of the plots should be superimposed on a suitably scaled map that would allow the identification of individual addresses.

Now I know what their asking for and despite spending the best part of my life in this business, I doubt even I would struggle to provide this information.

Two questions spring to mind..
Do the local planning people really understand what they are asking a taxi company to provide here???? Or have they just found some guidance notes for the sighting of high power miltary radar.

The mind boggles!

Here’s another pearl from last week.

Local enforcement officer..
Your software fails to meet our requirements for a private hire company, as it doesn’t provide the facility for entering the drivers plate and badge number when taking the booking.

Me..
That’s right it doesn’t but that’s on account of the fact that the jobs are entered by telephonists who don’t know which car or driver will get the job.

Local enforcement officer..
That’s your problem. You have to comply with our rules otherwise the software will have to be replaced with a one that will do the job correctly.

Me..
I think your missing the point. It’s impossible to record information whether on a computer or piece of paper when you don’t have the information until the after the jobs been done.

Ah! So what your saying is that you could send a driver with an expired badge or plate and you would only know when the jobs been done?

Me..
No, the computer doesn’t allow drivers on shift if any aspect be it badge plate mot etc isn’t up to date.

My rules clearly state…

One week. :lol:

I told him to go back to the people who make up these stupid rules and tell them to change them otherwise close down every taxi company in the area for none compliance. :lol:

The mind boggles even more!

Whoops - what you meant to say is the driver/vehicle information is irrelevant until the booking is allocated.

I suppose for sections 5 to 8 in that original letter, they'd reply, "don't ask us, ask Ofcom. They provided the radio licence".....

Ask Ofcom; that’s another joke these days.

When they centralised all licensing down in London they had to take on loads of new staff and applying for a data licence now is just as it was back in the dark age with lots of silly questions. What’s more, the local officers that in the past have been very helpful seem now to have massif chips on their shoulders and just tell us to speak to those who know better!

Ah well this is progress.
