Hi Yorkie

I have been involved in sales and on a number of occassions I had to walk away from the sale for a number of reasons.

I have seen other companies take everything they can get, promise the world and then all hell breaks loose.

Also with reagrds Bills comment about not sending out leaflets etc, I can say that over the years I have only seen Bill advertise in magazines and having a stand at the trade shows.

The main company that likes to send out flyers to nearly every taxi/ph company in the UK is Autocab, they do it on a regular basis, espeically after they have ripped out someone elses data system.

regards
RadioMan
Oh and before anyone says it, No I dont work for Bill.

Hi Radioman welcome back, I naturally assume that data companies who have a advertising budget of thousands are those to steer clear of. Word of mouth is better than any full page in PHM spouting off how good your system is, we all know DATA companies keep offices sweet when potential customers want to see their systems working. A mate of mine who is a builder never advertises, he's not had a day off in 3 years, I asked him the other day if he could do my dad a job? He said I've not got a free week till July, rule of the day is if a company say they can install straight away steer clear of them they ain't got no work on.

Yorkie

It’s sad that you choose not to believe what I’ve told you but I suppose this is understandable given that you consider me a salesman. Even I don’t believe salesmen so why should you believe me?? The fact is though Yorkie, as I said before, I run a small business and I don’t employ any salesmen. For sure, whoever answers the phone effectively ends up being a salesman but hey, that’s not on anyone’s job description and not what were all about. So stick to what you say Yorkie by all means. Your completely wrong but then again, only I know that for certain don’t I??.

Just to pick up on a couple of Nidges comments. Yep it’s a sad fact of life that most businesses have to advertise to get the work. I really wish we didn’t have to spend the amounts we do. Word of mouth is fine if your talking about which is the best taxi service in the town. Your likely to have thousands of customers all in one town whereas we only have about eighty customers and their spread the whole length and breadth of the UK Now that’s really not going to work is it Nidge?

On keeping companies sweet just a small correction. I know for a fact that this does go on with some firms, but not with us it doesn’t. We have a map on the wall with pins in that corresponds to our sites. We offer any company visiting our office to take their pick, we’ll give them the contact names and phone numbers then they can sit at my desk and speak with anyone while we go out and have a smoke. Now think about it, we can’t possibly be any fairer than that and we can’t have every firm in our pocket now can we??

Finally, If you’re in the market for a system Nidge, could probably do you one next week. So where does that put us on the dodgey scale? Nah don’t answer that!

Bill

Your always so DAMM negative and go on the attack against companies on this newsgroup. This is why people get [edited by admin] off at you. Its about time you gave it a rest.

You attack every supplier that comes on this forum and try and dig holes in everything. Maybe you should just bugger off and let the rest of us get on with things or like I said, STOP BEING SO DAMM NEGAGTIVE.

Apart from that your not a bad bloke at times.

Hi. Good to see you haven’t had any problems with your supplier, that’s the way it should be. Trouble is though with forums like this, is that anyone that does have any sort of fall out with a supplier can paint a very poor picture of the company when quite often the problem lies within the taxi company itself. Constant pokes at companies does little to help the industry and just tars everyone with the same brush leading to excessive suspicion and doubt.

We get asked what we think of other companies on a regular basis to which we have to reply that they are all pretty much of a much. There are differences but all do much the same and in the absence of any impartial organisation to advise people otherwise, a potential customer just has to do a bit of research and make their own choice.

Bill :)

Oh yeah, thats really a great sales pitch Bill.

Even though its mostly true.

Office propietors want to get everything they can from suppliers, pay as little as they can but charge drivers as much as they can. I know you have first hand knowledge of this kind of bloke who operated in my neck of the woods, thankfully he's retired now.

B. Lucky

(remember HB at LT, or was it F-LC, anyway his office was better used when it was a public toilet.)

Well we enjoyed your little quiz there. Took us a little while to work out who you were on about. That was a slightly strange sort of place that had a habit of changing ownership every few months. HB wasn’t that bad, I reckon he was an ok sort of bloke but it doesn’t necessarily follow that if you can manage a bank then you can run a taxi service. I’m not sure if we ever did convince him either that we were not part of the Microsoft empire.

Right here’s your test now! As I remember there was a guy (AA) who may have been the original owner, I’m not sure, but who certainly seemed very much anti data. Didn’t he keep buying the company back from who ever he last sold it to only to sell it on again later??? Part two to this question is, has this company changed hands yet again in the past few weeks???

This forums more fun than a barrel of monkeys

Bill :)

LOL Bill I can remember you coming out of a mamouth session with HB proclaiming the same "he think we're fu**ing Microsoft not some software company from Warrington", in fact I think you'd made more than one visit, I know slick had brought his slippers.

With regard your question AA bought the company from HB, HB had bought the company from GOD, The WEDGE, The Pope and "Filpper foot".

AA then sold the company to a group of drivers led by JT, this group was constantly reducing with people dropping out, and I believe that recently the company was put up for sale. I have no idea if it has been sold again.

AA has a very successful taxi operation in the neighbouring authority on the same side of the river but his involvement in Gateshead is no more, as far as I'm aware. As far as him being anti-data I think he was just a bit sceptical, if you remember we had Cabby, Mirandy amongst others and your system in within the same year, I think that HB's problems in deciding what he wanted added to his uncertainty.

I wonder if you remember me, I was the good looking slim bloke that looked after things when HB and JT were tucked up in bed.
