We're on AutoCab that replaced Auriga.

The two systems appear to do similar jobs. The Auriga system was not regularly maintained and upgraded by a previous management team and eventually it went bang.

They replaced it with the AutoCab system just before being displaced.

The current management team have maintained and upgraded the system on a regular basis and it performs reasonably well. As with all systems, you'll have the odd occasion when it crashes at the most inopportune moment.

I understand that AutoCab have the edge on Auriga for costs although I have no direct evidence of that statement.

I shall be trialling a new datahead within the next few days which, I believe, is touchscreen and includes mapping of some sort. I'll let you know how it goes.

Finally, we are on dataheads via VHF radio. No complaints with the way it works and the speed of the data processing, both in car and in the office.

Depends on what you want.

I'm quite happy for a girl to answer the phone, then radio the work to me.

Anything else is pointless and only in place so operators can pretend they know what they are doing.

It's not going to be with PDA's it's going to be Dataheads. Has anybody used the Autocab system?

CC is on Autocab isn't he??

Yes its good, but I dont pay the bills

A computer recently failed and it cost well over a grand to replace......the warranty / service agreement would appear to be a tad expensive with both systems.

Autocab recently launched the 'Minos', which I believe is what cabbyman will be trialling at the moment. For what it's worth, and I am in a very good position to know (!!), overall customer reaction to it has been very favourable.

The major exceptions to this have been when their customers have required SIM cards, in which case there have been numerous cases of poor signal/service. Though this is not directly Autocab's fault because it is BT, Vodafone etc. who provide the Airtime, Autocab will have little-to-zero interest in assisting you if you're having system problems upon install, and have already paid up for the equipment or signed up to a finance company.

Therefore if you go for the Autocab system, make sure to withhold some payment/signing up for a finance agreement until you are satisfied that everything is fully up and running, or they will 'f**k you'. The MD is a fan of offering that treatment to his customers, and not just his staff.

Ah ha another PDA based system that does down more times than a pro's knickers.

I wish people would get the idea that PMR is better than PDA.
