Well Chris, as I do own a TomTom and have owned a Garmin in the past I think it's fantastic in comparison especially with the HD traffic, it told me to venture onto the M25 at 8.30am opposed to the route I would have taken and there wasn't any traffic.

Just out of intertest why do you rate Garmin over TomTom?

With regards to replacing current systems used, this isn't want I'm trying to do. I'm fully aware that most drivers have a PDA with TomTom maps on them but with an actual TomTom device as well the Live services are available which can come in very handy, especially if you have a passenger who doesn't have a clue where he's going, you can now Google it and be directed there!

With Garmin the NAVTEQ mapping is just so superior.

On the very rare occasions I have had a faulty product it has been swapped out or repaired in record time - and no questions asked within warranty.

Out of warranty - OK - they asked some questions - then repaired the product - I did have pay the postage, but that was all.

The actual kit is much better.

Online support is unbeatable.

With my other hat on, the marine products are excellent, though I have never had a radar from them.

But apart from that little lot, I don't suppose there is that much in it.

Very interesting but........... What about those of us that have Tom Tom as part of the package from our data suppliers? Mapshare doesn't work with those. And how many devices do you expect a driver to have on their screen?

Nice try ... but no cigar

Our Tom Tom is about as much use as a Chocolate fireguard. Not long to go before it's ripped out.

I've even hacked into the Mercury PDA and put the latest Tomtom map on. Still tries to take us up the roads that either don't exist anymore or are dirt tracks through farmers' fields.
Why, if Tomtom have bought Teleatlas, don't they get to grips with all these errors.
Whenever a passenger sees my IGO running (using Navteq), ,they automatically assume it is Tomtom. Therefore, one of the biggest names in the business should also be one of the best.
I like the Tomtom interface, shame about the routeing

Why not produce something like this that is easy to update and has nearly everything a taxi driver requires so they dont need loads of things stuck to the dash this ones £800 and the lighting can be set to your cars dash
I have the Columbus RNS 510 fitted to my Octavia I even have freeview TV

Why don't Tomtom upgrade their PDA version?
Surely a PDA can handle the 'live' part as they have a permanent internet connection when it's part of a despatch system.

Nothing wrong with my old one but just got a Garmin Nuvi.

Compared it with a new TomTom and I have to be fair...

The Garmin I bought was just so much....

BETTER!

Same here Chris, Tom Tom IMO is outdated.

Ditto with my Co-Pilot.

It's an aid to navigation, not an end in itself.
