I think it got flamed for a while and people left it.
Shame really as it was however very fun in its day..
Its not quite as good as these PHP forums as it was only a single topic forum and did not have the luxury of topics like this one.

We use the same engine as this one on our site, its very easy to use and install, I reccomend it if anyone else is thinking of starting a forum.

No more taxi ones though.. It gets too hectic trying to check them all.

Of all the Companies I have spoken to, in my quest for the best and ultimate (and cheapest) system for our needs, I have had the most help and advice from:

Cabmaster, Auriga and Diplomat.

None of the above three have told me lies (to my knowledge), and I have been excessively hard in my questions sometimes. (As they will probably attest).

By far the most educational of the above three was Diplomat, who have taught me a lot.

I have visited customers of all three companies, and all were reasonably happy with their lot.

Pity that Auriga and Cabmaster are still in DOS, even though I have always liked the stability of DOS. But you just cant get away from the fact that Windows is here, and every new kid on the block knows windows.

My favourite is still Datamaster, simply for the way they combine everything on one screenshot. Shame I just cannot seem to stop crashing it.

Now, if only Diplomat could single screen their works like datamaster, and still sell their software for the same price as datamaster. Then, I think, they would take over the world.

Especially so, if they could give some indication of their future not being targeted at tied-customer monopolies. Imagine, for example, open source code, and really long term stability.

Am I dreaming, or are these a simple man's aspirations. Or greed? Wanting it all?

Who, will eventually be the "Microsoft" of the taxi world?

Thanks for your kind comments Andy.
Please join our Diplomat forums and put your requests on the Navigator wishlist forum. You will be surprised how quickly we could accomodate some of your wishes.
Cheers
Stewart

I have not dumped them Geoff.

I just didnt swallow at first bite.

They still have a good software set-up.

I am just naturally allergic to salespeople. Now Peter has moved on to Mercury, my allergy has not abated.

To be perfectly honest, we still havn't settled on a system. Peter says Mercury isnt planning to support TaxiBus, so thats out. Mobisoft is just soooooo expensive that it isnt for us. Evocab needs to settle down it seems, Raywood have never called us back, nor have some others. CabMaster is out of date. Datamaster will still not stand up to more than a few minutes of my crashing attempts (still my favouriten personally), and its accounts package isnt fully integrated. At present, I have to say this, Diplomat is still our favourite commercially, as we can both talk to them and get really sensible answers. Their cross platform comms is a breakthrough that will have much effect on our marketplace, and at the end of the day, whatever you say about Stewart (true or false) the bloke has always answered my questions and the answers have proven to be true.

I aint asked him about his previous business deals. Thats none of my business. Business is business after all. If you want a saint, dont look for a businessman of any hue.

As far as Jason is concerned, he is the most knowledgeable and approachable person I have met in the industry. The Company that has Jason on its payroll has personall abilities that few others can match.

Try talking to technical people at Auriga or Raywood fer chrisakes. The sales guys wont let you near them.

When we finally go ahead with our project, the amount we will be spending is substantial. We just cant afford to get it wrong, as we dont have that much money.

At the end of the day, it looks like we are going to end up with Siemens, but thats more likely to be by default rather than choice.

mercury are supporting our taxibus operation, thats a fact, we are having software changes so dont know where you got that from.

now about the software, not Diplomats at all but developed by tom scott for Excel Management.

good luck on finding your software supplier, our development was supported by the Department of Transport.

Well, I hear what you say, but Peter at Mercury told me emphatically that Mercury were not developing Taxibus software and it was not on the cards, and would not be until they had sufficient enquiries for it, and that so far, I was the only person who wanted it.

To be frank, I didn't believe that at the time anyway.

But, I can only go on what I am told.

If they say they are not developing TaxiBus software, what should I say to them then?

If Diplomat don't own their own software, why hasn't anyone sued them for breaching their copyright then?

And I thought it was Mike Scott who developed the original Midas?

Nigel.
of course I have phoned the company, apparently hes a London based salesman, it was thought I did not need to know.

they know now I find out everything and in future I need to be told.

roumour is abound that Diplomat have no sales staff left.

however if they cannot get hold of gear there is no point.

Arsenal are probably after Jason.

Hi, Don't come on the forums that often but it gets so quiet at this time of year we have to while away the time.

Just reading your comments about how our software keeps on crashing on you. I don't have all the answers Andy but have to assume there must be some form of conflict on your machine. When we install, we are normally using virgin (new) machines running XP Pro however installing onto existing machines can be a bit more hit and miss and we accept that our demo software may well not perform on everyone’s machine. The intention of the CD is simply to give people a chance to try out the software at no cost and while we have had a degree of success, I'm sure most of our discs end up as cup mats. We do our best Andy, can't do much more than that!

As regards the accounts package not being fully integrated, well that's by design. We believe that other than the smallest of companies, the accounts are normally done away from the telephonists in a separate office. This is what most people tell us they want but at the end of the day, it’s only a click of the mouse to import all the current records. Incidentally, we have added a cut down version of accounts for small companies or those that don't have many accounts and this is accessible on all machines. It's very basic and only prints out simple statements rather than full VAT invoices but it works.

I'm not too sure what version of our software you've tried but if you want the latest CD complete with the worlds worst video then either email me or bob a reply post on here and I'll get one to you.

Anyway I've rabbited on long enough and I'll try and make it on here a bit more often. Meanwhile a very merry Christmas to you and all others on this board.

Bill
