It looks like we are going to go for the mercury system with pda's.
I have been to two companies who are using it and was very impressed.
Both companies are using it on full auto and have had no problems.

Shouldn't you read Nortax's comments first.

Mr T

As far as I know Raywood is a good reputable company although that said I've never spoken with anyone that uses it. In any case it's the users that you should be asking rather than me.

Bill. The two systems that I know of have been tailor-made to their requirements , and all sorts of goodies, but lot's of problems along the journey, only to be expected I think, I was only curious because I never see their name mentioned and found it intriguing...Trev

Well Trev, the way I see it is that all systems do pretty much the same thing in that they allow you to take bookings and dispatch them out to the cars. From my perspective, it really doesn’t matter about the frills or where one has a feature that another doesn’t but the important thing is how it works for the customer.

Last week I visited two companies. One on the south coast with a modern web based system that falling apart so badly that had we not stepped in when we did, I doubt the company would have survived another week! Secondly a company up north with an old dos based system that was reliable and did everything they wanted. Two very different systems but a perfect illustration of how to get it right (and wrong).

The way we approach it is that we don't design systems that we think people want. We let them come to us and tell us if something needs adding or making better. That way, when we make the changes that people ask for, if there are problems, then customers are more likely to accept them and give some leeway with the development process.

Every company works slightly differently than the next and the key is making the software flexible enough to meet everyone’s needs. Companies like Raywood, who as I see them, tend to go for the larger fleets, might find it extremely difficult to meet the needs of the smaller companies but that's their choice. I wish I could say that I only dealt with the hundred plus companies because life would be so much easier.

So in answer to you question (and this is only my guess), maybe there just isn’t that many Raywood users out there to comment. In any case, I reckon that companies that have paid umpteen thousands of pounds for a system that doesn’t meet their needs are not exactly likely to come onto a forum like this and say so.

And in answer to Rambo. We take calls from companies every week with complaints that things aren’t what they should be. Pretty much every company is included on this list and that’s a fact! But then again there’s no company out there that’s come up with the magical solution that meets everyone’s needs despite the claims.

It just wouldn’t be right for me in my position to advocate one company or another on an open forum like this and I know you will understand this.

Bill
