First one seems to be the same unit as on the Maplin's link the other week.

Seems quite a good idea, but if it only records one frame every two seconds at best then it's not going to be much use as evidence in an RTA, or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

Why not just put the item number?

I think that would be ok for the courts if backed up by the aggrieved giving a full statement, which can be followed by the slow CCTV.

If I were you I'd check with your council as to which system they'll let you have. Anything that uses magnetic data is subject to the data protection act, the systems that are used in Taxis are sealed until you have a incident you'll then have to take the car to the Council for them to open the HD and retrieve the images then they pass them onto the police.

Our systems are sealed, they have no sound all they do is take images every couple of seconds while the meter is turned on, I doubt your council will let you have a system you've bought from Ebay.

i would have to say the same. The council down here wiil not let you have one, why you say, because you have access to the sd card.

with mine i have 3 cam's i could add another one, pickups sound as well. records onto a 160gb hd, over writes it self every 30 day.
I have no access to the recorded film, so i cannot not delete anything on the drive.

I checked with our council about 6 months ago, and they said we can fit anything we want, and they are not bothered what system it is, as long as we put stickers up saying cctv fitted

The problem I was thinking about was that since these things tend to happen very quickly then one frame every two seconds would very probably miss a lot of vital information, but I suppose it might be better than nowt.

Thanks skippy, but I'm still not 100% sure about it - it may record continuously, but my point was that if it only records a frame every couple of seconds then its usefulness might be limited.

The first one says:

Capture intervals can be set to between 2-3 seconds and 3 minutes

Batteries provide around 4 hours continuous use when recording at three second intervals

I suppose the first bit could be read to mean that that's the amount of time it records for, but the second bit seems to confirm that that's the time between each frame.

Anyway, I might have a look at something like that after the New Year (maybe cheaper then ), so I'll do a bit of digging then.
