I just signed up for Cabcard, applied on Mon got machine delivered Tue, it looks good, nice little rechargable machine that runs on Vodafone, lots of stickers for the car, £3.25 rental then 10% per transaction charged to the customer. |

Is the £3.25 a weekly rental? I've just looked at their site and it looks good. |

It is not phone based it is a proper card machine with a sim card in it that uses the mobile network to autorise the payments, yes its £3.25 per week. I was in Cheltenham this week and spotted many cabs carrying the signs. |

Sorry, but that sounds expensive compared to Taxipay. If you're using Vodafone, you're using the mobile network. Albeit, you have the terminal but, I get an authorisation code through my mobile. The payment is cast-iron against fraud if I also get an impression of the card signed on the familiar slip. Do you have a chip and pin facility? That's the only advantage I could see. |

£25 a year only works out at 50p per week and it has chip and pin and a swipe facility. it prints 2 receipts one for you and one for the customer. it looks and works like any normal machine you find in your local petrol station. |

How often do you use it? I've done two transactions in the three months or so I've had the facility. |

I only got it this week and have not used it yet till i add the visa logo to my local paper adverts and put the signage on the vehicle this weekend. I may not use it but you gotta try something different , times are hard and none of the other cabs in the area takes cards and i cant wait till the next cocky punter says "got no cash mate will you take a card" |

Hence I went the Taxipay route. No costs to me for occasional usage. |

I've been doing this job for 20 years, and only been asked twice if I take credit cards. And both times they just paid cash instead. So am I missing something here?

So am I missing something here? ![]() We accept credit cards, or used to.....they're good for station and airport pick ups, the punters do tend to find you if they've paid before they get the service, as opposed to jumping in some others cab! I was thinking to use it more for airport runs, the punter can pay on their credit card and they wont actually pay until they get back off holiday. But hey where i am its dire at the moment, no cash about at all so was just trying to add another string to my fiddle, might try a 0800 number as well. |
