I work for a company in Manchester that's just had this nightmare of a system installed, in conjunction with a merger with a crap company that used to cover the Cheetham Hill (say no more) area of Manchester. Now all their drivers are making their way onto our area instead of their own patch - leaving us at least £20-30 a night down.

Anybody used Autocab for a while and can pass on any tricks and workarounds in the system? There must be some. Auriga, the system we used before, was full of them.

Help the fight-back...

You can't take a job off the system untill you've cleared with the job you're doing. This is enforced by the fact you've got to use the meter built into the Autocab data head. Not only is this limiting your earning power, it also makes a record of your precise earnings!!??!! So the Taxman will be able to see just what you take each shift - so there'll be no getting out of that one in future. This is only a sample of how sh*te Autocab is for Drivers - it might suit the Owners and the Taxman but for us, Forget it!!

Are those Autocab rules or a rules set by the radio circuit?

Do you think this is to stop drivers from ripping off the circuit as well as the taxman?

1. If you know the price don't use the meter

2. When your about to clear long bonnet the data head which means clear before the journey ends.

Isn't that an offence in a hackney? The punter has to be able to see the metered rate because you can't charge more than the metered rate.
If the meter is not used how does the punter know if the price is correct?

I have a feeling your wrong there if you know how to cheat Autocab no-one is sure how to tell how much your earning. You can fiddle any system given time to learn the tweaks,

The system won't send you a job until you clear your meter. You have the ability to tell the system that you are to clear shortly and it will allocate any work in your clearing zone to you, unless there are clear vehicles already in the zone.

It is very noticeable that if all involved, drivers and controllers, play the game, everybody gets their fair share of work. It's down to management to keep things above board and eliminate cheating. With robust disciplinary procedures for drivers and staff, we have just about managed it!!!!

And since when has any taxi firm been that well run it can manage that??!!

The Auriga system we had, before this nonsense, at least allowed decent drivers the opportunity to plan ahead somewhat and use their aptitude for the job, gained through experience. Autocab takes any skill out of the job, and as a result decreases the earnings of decent drivers.

Some companies don’t have good disciplinary skills and instead leave it to the software to define and enforce the rules. At least doing it this way, the rules are exactly the same for all drivers so everyone gets an even share of the work. And by the way, every system I’ve seen has this function although it’s generally optional as to whether it’s applied or not.

By holding a job for a car that’s soon to clear in an area you’re effectively doing exactly the same thing as “long bonneting” but the difference is that the office sees a true rather than false situation and as such is able to advise the waiting customer better. What’s more, there may be other cars that actually clear earlier and that would be better placed to do the job which is better for the other driver and better for the customer.

Bill :)

We use mercury, when I was controlling I could clear the driver from the office and give him a job to run onto.
