Post subject:  In Taxi CCTV System

Hello all, just joined the forum as we're looking for a bit of feedback and advice on a new in taxi surveillance camera system we've just started stocking.

From the initial units we've sold over the first few weeks and from our own testing the system is going down really well but we're not cabbies so would love to hear what you guys think.

There is a full product demo video on our website but to give you a brief outline : the system has 2 cameras, one facing out of the front windscreen and the other internal monitoring activity inside the vehicle. The internal camera has infrared and so gives good close range video footage at night time too. The system also records audio and on top of this has a GPS receiver, so when you playback the video footage you will also know exactly where you were and at what speed the vehicle was going at any particular point in time. The device records automatically upon increase in speed, decrease in speed, sudden breaking or vibration. The driver also has an emergency record button if he or she feels it's about to "kick off" inside the taxi! The system literally takes 30 seconds to set up, no vehicle configuration needed whatsoever.

Anyway, the product demo video explains this all much better than I can in words. Any feedback would be great and thanks very much in advance for your time.

Dealing with this trade is a nightmare.

If I was you I would offer a number CCTV packages, ranging from very very cheap with the barest of essentials, to top of the range with loads of cameras.

Most of the trade will just ask the price before the benefits of a system, but many will be interested in getting the right product.

I also believe the rental market is a way forward to get CCTV into vehicles where drivers don't want to spend money up front.

It sounds ok but I wouldn't want anything that recorded what speed I was travelling at

Thanks for the advice, rentals may well be something we'll look into.

In the past we've seen lots of in car DVRs whereby you can add cameras etc but these have always been extremely expensive and involved fitting and vehicle configuration costs. This product can be fit in seconds by the driver themselves and is much lower cost than what we've seen in the past.

Thanks again for your input.

I don't think being loose is a good thing for a girlie so that would be better for me :D

Before you get carry away, most systems has to be approve by the council ion most areas

can the vid's be detele by the driver

no wireless, because of hacking

pco approve

just like the other stuff we got in are vehicles

these are a few things

Thanks meltingsmoke.

There is no wireless technology with this system so no chance of wirelessly "linking in" etc.

In theory the driver could delete data if he/she had a laptop with them.

"Device is portable and can be unclipped from bracket in seconds"

A hoodlum might steal the unit as well as the cash from the driver?

Yes, always possible - although if the passenger is seated in the back of the cab very unlikely.

It looks good on your website, but I'm with toots on this one, anything that records my speed would make me nervous. Can you disable that function?

Hi there,

I am new to TDO and now this topic seems to be the perfect place to begin. I have also posted in the news section

Regarding CCTV for taxi’s, I run a company, Lothian Taxi Services, who are based in Edinburgh and have been appointed as agents for the VerifEye TaxiCam.

This topic has been discussed for a while now on an Edinburgh based taxi driver forum (under the thread driver safety) regarding these systems being installed in Edinburgh and the Lothians.

This TaxiCam system is the market leading in terms of advancement, security, technology and image quality. The manufacturer, VerifEye, this is what they do. This system isn’t an amalgamation of parts bought from china or from Maplin. This system has been designed with the taxi trade in mind.

65,000 systems have been installed worldwide in over 90 cities and 20 countries. The TaxiCam has been voted best in class by many of the authorities which it is installed.

The tamperproof system is designed to limit access to authorised personnel to ensure that any recorded images are admissible in court. Drivers have NO ACCESS to the recorded data to eliminate privacy concerns.
Only authorised installers are able to set the system up and have to have he equipment to do so.

The stored data cannot be accessed or damaged by passengers within the vehicle which means that even if the attacker damages the camera head within the vehicle, the images are still safe.

There are cheap systems available freely online for a couple of hundred pounds which will record your passengers in your vehicle. But to what ends, would it be admissible in court, I doubt it, would it be legal, unlikely.

This system has shown compliance with PCO and ICO recommendations as well as meeting and exceeding the minimum recommended specifications set out by Lothian and Borders Police for installation.

Undoubtedly CCTV within licensed vehicles is something that drivers are looking to now, especially facing the unfortunate upturn in violence and attacks upon them while just trying to make end meet.

These systems have been available worldwide for some time now and also down in England, Now the cabbies of Scotland can be afforded another level of protection.

This topic is something I feel quite strongly about, not just from a business perspective, but I have been there and driven taxi’s and private hire cars, I know what can happen.

I’m happy to discuss the aspects of the system we offer to anyone seeking more information or demonstrations. Our website and that of the manufacturer are full of useful and interesting information.

Regards

Andy
