I was not sure if I should add this question onto my telephone system thread, but started a new one in case I confused anyone, mainly me! Basically, I want to be able to accept credit cards over the phone and have a machine that I can carry around with me incase I have a credit card booking while I out and about and the phones on divert. Can anyone tell me a good system that is cheap and reliable? I cant afford to pay too much for a system as there are not too many calls at the moment to accept credit cards and it will just increase my costs. Thanks for all the help and advice guys. |

I have just opened a taxipay account. It costs nothing to set up and you pay 6.5% to the company which can be added as a surcharge to the customer so you infact don't pay anything for it. |

I and also, I believe, Echo15 use Taxipay. It's cost effective for the occasional transaction. A good place to start, IMHO. |

Taxipay works fine with zero outlay to driver as they do the merchant banking stuff all in one. I have mine set at 11.5% rather than 6.5%. Downside is that you manually swipe the card on a receipt, just a touch slow. After you start with them they send you a text with the file. Good luck. |

11.5% you tight git. Mine is only 10%.

Because the ten per cent charge does not show on the meter is it legal to demand it? |

The 10% surcharge is not part of the fare. The customer can always pay cash. I am sure that the surcharge is legal. |

Me too. The fare plus 10% as the quotation. However I find that the ppl who want the card facility travel longer distances & I give them discounted prices, so even adding 10% on it still becomes a cheaper fare than the metered rate. When doing shorter jobs its cheaper to take them to a cash machine and less hassle, its their choice!! |

One of our chaps has signed up via huddlebuy and waiting the card reader that plugs into your phone and costs £20. Any other cost then is 2.75%. I believe the first £20 of the 2.75% is free; to refund cost of card. It is not "Chip & Pin" and believe UK Visa have not made their minds up to accept...until they do its a waste of time since most UK cards are Visa. Security sounds a little mickey mouse...you have to have a facebook account? Some of the sites are claiming Visa compatibility but I will wait to see how my mate gets on. If its a green light I shall order one straight away. |
