I’ve just been asked a question that you’d expect me to know off the top of my head.

Despite having records of the car quantities and job counts, I can’t come up with a figure of how many jobs a typical driver would expect to do on a normal week.

The things that bugger up my sums are company cars that might be double and triple shifted, Hackneys that do mainly street work and part time drivers.

So you guys are mainly drivers, what would you call a good weeks work?

If I do 100 jobs off the base in a week I've had a good week.

Basically it’s a question from someone on the forum that wants to know what a typical job count would be for an average driver and I’m just being lazy I suppose. I’ve got averaged numbers that vary from as little as 12 office jobs per week on a large hack circuit to 240 on a medium sized private hire. Short of wading through the logs to find out specifics, I thought it’d be an idea to ask here. In any case it could make for a good debate.

So the question should be, roughly how many office jobs do you normally expect to do each week and are you PH or hack?

I only drive part time, hackney on a Friday night on a Saturday night. Some Friday's I can do more radio (datahead actually) jobs than rank jobs. I look to average 17 jobs a shift. Friday's I usually work 19.00 to 02.30 and Saturdays 18.00 to 02.30. I normally have a bit of a break around 20.30. Gone on, say it, bl**dy part time amatuer.

How long is a piece of string?

The main variables are: - Town/District/Local Authority, time of year, day of week, time of day, length of shift, number of shifts per week, Trading on a System or as a Hack. There are probably a few more to add if I really thought about it.

I seem to do between 120 and 140 per week, based on 6 days (no nights).

Night drivers can do more as there is less traffic.

We have a couple of drivers that do up to 240 a week, but they really do put the hours in and don't have any other driver in their car.

So I'd say a driver that sticks it out all day at our firm should hit 20-25 jobs per day

Private hire firm in a smallish town with no train station, therefore we get quite a few out-of-town runs.

Fri/sat nights around here, for a 10 hour shift (PH), I'd be expecting to do at least 35 jobs, usually around 5 of these being out of towners. More if unlucky enough to get all local runs.

Nights during the week, 8 hour shift, 25-30, but hardly any out of town jobs. Never worked out the amount of jobs before, only figures I usually look at are miles travelled and money taken.

Could you give me an idea of the average priced job in your area?

£3.50-5 for local runs.

£9-12 to the nearest towns depending on which side the drop is.

Between 700 and 800 a week.
