I can let you have a brand new car - free to use as much as you want, all you have to do is pay me a £18,000 'setup' fee.

F**K OFF.

I don't know whether this system is any good or not, and as I'm never going to be in a position to buy any of this stuff I really couldn't care less, unless of course the owners of the firm I work with buy it.

However we do get from time to time very small firm owners coming on here asking for help to get them started. Now if they can get started for £290, and they are happy, then that's a lot better than bankrupting themselves with a supa dupa state of the art system costing tens of thousands.

Isn't it illegal to advertise something as free, when it isn't?

Free booking and software but you pay for the computer. Nothing wrong with that.

Yes there is. If the free software is only available if you pay for the computer.

I thought the money was to cover set up costs.

It looks like you can use your own PC.

There's something in consumer law that says you can't offer something as free if you have to buy something else in order to get the free part.

So you can't offer 'free' software if the only way to get it is to pay a setup fee. But you can sell a chocolate bar with 50% extra free because you are already paying the standard price for the chocolate bar anyway. Or to put it another way the software and setup are not seperate, you can't use the software without paying the setup fee nor can you buy the setup without getting the software. So as they come as a package one part is not free if you have to pay for the other.

It would be like selling a car at full price and saying it comes with a free engine, but you can't buy a new car without an engine and so it's not a free extra, it's included in the sale price.

You need a computer to run the software though. It's clearly aimed at the 10-15 car fleet who currently work off pen and paper.

Even 10-15 car fleets would already have a computer. I have.

I don't think that you are correct with that statement. Most individuals have a computer of some sort. Even the smallest business would find it hard to function without a computer of some sort. Record keeping, invoicing, internet banking, email, just some of the basic functions that I would think every business will have. If they haven't, they are not much of a business are they?

Its not FREE, its Free to use once it is setup.

Free to use, as in no monthly subscriptions.
I am sure everyone gets offered FREE phones if only they sign a 24 month airtime contract.
Shame is they wont give us the FREE phone unless we sign the contract.

We would love to offer the software totally FREE.
We would like a copy in every town and village.
The reasoning behind this is we shortly have cost comparison websites using the software to get local quotes and place bookings.
The more sites that have a systems installed, the more quotes and the more automated bookings will be made.

I just cannot think of a way of giving away the software without any setup.
The support phones lines would jam with "how do I ? " Questions.
Any suggestions gratefully received
