About half an hour, on average. Depends where you want it fitted and how awkward it is to do.

About an hour, if you have one of them mirror ones they don't take as long.

I wouldnt want a fitter who can fit a taxi meter in half an hour any where near a car of mine !!
It takes longer than that to do the job properly and to a standard

Took 45 minutes, 15 years ago it took longer with having to cut the speedo drive and fit a transducer

now its plug and play, jump a fuse, hide the wires, do a test drive

probably helps having done so many Skodas

Ok it can be done ,but my point is regarding the quality of the install and the wiring "jump a fuse " that's not something i would do for a meter fit tbh .Im always back to the battery although as we often running a pmr and data unit as well we are be going back to the battery in any case .
If we fitting a Digitax with roof lights then we would also be wiring a relay for switching .
so granted 1/2 hour smash fit or in my case as long as it takes to do the required work and to achieve the best result and tidiest install with no loose wires or meter mounting.
I dont charge any more to do it that way either.

Pitts usually take about an hour to fit a meter in our cars. As far as I am aware the wiring goes back to the battery.

Not now, the fitter told me it was fed from the fuse box (inside the car) using a blade fuse, its easier and quicker than routing all the way to the battery

That would depend on how long they been going wouldn't it? ,They are well known meter dealers also now linked with what was Rem in Uxbridge and are distributors for the Turkish Tetas meter, and installers of others.
If you are asking I've been in the Trade 26 years and am well known (at least in this part of the world lol)in the taxi meter installation business ,We are specialist vehicle installers and cover a varied amount of equipment from all taxi ,radio, data system aerials,CCTV systems ,vehicle Tracking and disabling devices,Telematics and black box's,all the usual hands free and audio kits OEM integration. And then more unusual kit for specialist fleet company's like pole fed cleaning systems and Drain repair companies. We fleet fit company vehicles to specific requirements and have a reputation for the level of work we carry out.
I have been involved in every aspect of the taxi trade from early days as my dad owned a cab firm when i was young and i worked front and back office ,full on operator first with good old block and board and Two way Radio, later with other companies using the very old datamaster scroll head which was really new at the time ( I still love that little old screen with the knob and 3 buttons , so simple) then with autocab and Auriga systems .I spent a fair amount of years driving too as both P/H and Hack but as the family came along i realised the hours i was missing could turn into years.
So long ago diversified as i owned a garage and have all the old city & guilds motor vehicle papers (shows my age !)and have a varied mechanical and electronics background so we specialised in the taxi electronics installation at first and just kept going into new markets.
I do still own a fleet of rental taxis though as a separate business as we do all our own fleet work and maintenance in house but we only rent out the cars not operate as a cab firm.
So looks like i've just listed my CV lol ,not sure why really as new to this forum and just curious to read through various threads and sort of sucked in ,been looking on several forums just to keep up to date on issues and legislation and found this one and an uber drivers forum to be quite busy and interesting

Cant understand why youd slag off another companies work, its all local, no-one travels 200 miles for a meter, just service your local trade, Pitts have been around long enough for me to trust

Quote:
Initially we represented a mechanical meter called Bell Punch thus maintaining mechanical meters for many years.

In 1979, we introduced one of the first electronic meter into the provincial market, this was the CAVALIER, then came the SHERIFF meter which proved to be very successful,. We played a major role in establishing these companies.

In 1983 we introduced the TX12 Taxitronic meter. Its wasn't long before this meter became very successful, due to it being the smallest P.C.O. & B.S.I. meter on the market at that time, then came the TX14 / TX18 / TX20 / TX22 / TX28 / TX30 / TX34 Right up to the present day TX40. Also we surport Autocab meter and Digitax meters
