The sales pitch is much better than the reality. Crashes lots and 'free' is very expensive. |

I have recently installed the Mercury system. The company supplying it is Exel Management. Installed 9 weeks ago. Has not worked for a complete 24 hours once yet. Only works in 30% of fleet. This is worst than getting married |

My research showed it was shockingly unreliable. |

The main problems are down to data-heads. Although I am a new-ish company (which was not in existence 11 months ago) 60% of drivers can't get the GPS to work in their vehicles. Exel Management is very unhelpful. If we ring after 5pm their first answer is "this is not an emergency its going to cost you £60.00 for help". Firstly, with 60% of my fleet down after 5pm on a Friday, IT IS AN EMERGANCY. As I am on a monthly service contract, I find this extremely offensive. Mercury mobile can only work from a single cig-lighter. NEVER direct to battery. NO stacked cig-lighters either. London cabs metro inclusive, have two cig-lighters, most on a 20amp linked fuse. Another big NO NO. It must be single 10amp only. My favourite though is the blue-tooth. SPV blue-tooth phones take priority over SPV Data-head blue-tooth, kicking drivers off of system. Drivers have to have their own blue-tooth off at all times. The most embarrassing of all is some drivers keep getting logged into the North Sea. But I haven't got a plot there, honestly). Are you with Mercury Mobile edinburgh_taxi. If so is your system more reliable. |

nah we are currently awaiting the arrival of the data units themselves ill keep you posted on how we get on and tbh they did explain the whole emergency thing to us but for us this is not really a major issue cos i myself are prolly better than their staff 
do u have any other issues with distrbution of jobs etc or is it purely powering the units and gps issues??? |

if i was you guys id take a look at diplomats navigator its gotta be the most versatile product on the market the booking/dispatch engine is similar to mercurys but a 100 times better with more features and full mapping. quit while your ahead, mercury just chat jibberish!! |

I hate to throw a spanner in the works Super Fly. However....... I went to see the Mercury sales pitch in Birmingham at the beginning of this year. The sales manager was so obsessed with slating Diplomat that he mentioned that Mercury Upper Management had previously been involved with Diplomat and thats why he knew so much about them. On pushing him he refused to go further. Coincidence, maybe! One thing is for sure, Diplomat seems to be working for some but I've also read some heavy put-downs on this very website. Some which are not to dissimilar to Mercury mobile!!!! |

I think the two companies crawled out the same pit. Whilst I hear lots of positive comments about Diplomat I wouldn't invest my money on a system sold by a company that has liquidated itself a couple of times in last few years. |

Stick to pen and paper.......when you go on to a computer system you are on the merry go round and you must have the next best thing.  ..voice radio then data heads now it's Pda's.You will allways be asked to upgrade which means more money.We just gone from chalk and slate to pen and paper....and allready we are being asked if we want lined paper as an upgrade.  Also Bt have found out we are using Ex Mc Donalds coke cartons and string and want us to put in a telephone system. But we are not to sure about this...
