I know we've touched this topic in another post, but I thought it could do with a proper discussion.
What make meter do you recommend for private hire use, Ideally not to big, ease of use and what features on various meters

if i were to buy ised meter would it be something i could fit myself? (I am fully qualified mechanic and auto electrian) just I've never seen the wiring on one, obviously it would still need tariff set and calibration by someone?
As I was looking at a sheriff ultima on fleabay

got a digitax et806 of ebay for 50 quid. liked the look as its quite small and will do mw as i only need basic functions, plus theres a digitax agent about 4 mile from my house

Does anyone now with wire on the speed sensor is used on a mk2 mondeo 1998 model

looks like you could be right there, just remembed I've got wiring diagrams on autodata cd and it looks like a blue and white white on pin 2 of the speed sensor or pin 12 of the ecu

I quite like the Cygnus and the Sheriff meters, but I would go for the meter the local meter man sells. Then when it goes belly up, your not off work for too long.

barry wrote: looks like you could be right there, just remembed I've got wiring diagrams on autodata cd and it looks like a blue and white white on pin 2 of the speed sensor or pin 12 of the ecu This can't be a hard job to anyone with a bit of savvy in electrics, going by the so called agents who seem to fit these meters, I have a digitax, we have a local agent but choose to use a qualified vehicle eleccy from 40 miles away who comes round in a van loaded with all the gear and onboard computors, I have heard many stories of vehicles catching fire after these "agents" have touched the vehicle lets put it this way, the loom is hidden quite easily behind the dash, there is no need in most cases to drill, what is there, what 4 wires coming off the meter, one for the sensor, one for earth, one for live, one for top light +plus earth again, once you find the sensor wire youv'e cracked it, if its not the sensor wire the meter don't work
