I know we've touched this topic in another post, but I thought it could do with a proper discussion. What make meter do you recommend for private hire use, Ideally not to big, ease of use and what features on various meters cheers |

I quite like the Cygnus and the Sheriff meters, but I would go for the meter the local meter man sells. Then when it goes belly up, your not off work for too long.

As I was looking at a sheriff ultima on fleabay This one wants an offer, maybe 40 odd quid will get the meter as it is in "fair" used condition, its got the loom, you only need the transducer for the speedo or find out which wire on your motor is the sensor pick up wire if yours is modern vehicle, then you need the agent to program it http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sheriff-Ultima-ta ... dZViewItem |

Does anyone now with wire on the speed sensor is used on a mk2 mondeo 1998 model Not sure but thought that speed sensor wire colour should be standard universal colour, if I forget, I think mine was blue and white, mines a 2000 Merc,e320 pick my wire up from the left hand passenger inner sill side, maybe give Ford agent tech dept a ring, or ask your meter agent if he will tell you. |

Have a gander at this, it seems you can pick up the sensor near the speedo, tread carefully, but you are a car eleccy http://www.mirez.co.uk/Trips.htm |

This can't be a hard job to anyone with a bit of savvy in electrics, going by the so called agents who seem to fit these meters, I have a digitax, we have a local agent but choose to use a qualified vehicle eleccy from 40 miles away who comes round in a van loaded with all the gear and onboard computors, I have heard many stories of vehicles catching fire after these "agents" have touched the vehicle lets put it this way, the loom is hidden quite easily behind the dash, there is no need in most cases to drill, what is there, what 4 wires coming off the meter, one for the sensor, one for earth, one for live, one for top light +plus earth again, once you find the sensor wire youv'e cracked it, if its not the sensor wire the meter don't work |

pin 2 blue and white. The easiest way to find the pulse sensor wire is to jack up the vehicle, put in gear and drive, insert volt meter using needle pointer of volt meter test cables to the required cable in this cable we suggest it is blue and white at the moment, and the result will be as below Pulse : Voltmeter 'pulses' between a voltage and '0' as sensor is turned. |
