Hi, Helen.

I have sent you an email regarding card payment functionality through Sherlock.

I intend to have a dispatch system implemented in the next 2 years but it seems there are no firms providing card payment options whereby the driver has the money transferred into their own personal account.

Does anyone know of any dispatch firm that provides this?

As the industry predominantly has self-employed drivers this does seem to baffle me that there are no companies offering this service.

They would pretty much take market share of customers as this facility would be a god send for any foward thinking taxi business.

Hi Meter Man

What is wrong with BACS payment/transfer to drivers account+sort code? Most banks have facilities to do bulk payment to a list of drivers.

Card gateways just have no options to do payments TO a card (except refund)

The problem is tax and/or administration and also employee/self-employed issue.

It should not be too much to expect a dispatch system to offer this facilility.

The way I see it is this:

Have driver reigister a username and password in dispatch system with bank details also recorded.

When driver logs into system, any card payments by customer is then facilitated through dispatch system and sent direct to driver's bank account with usual clearance times of 2-3 days. All this is simply automated. It is not a complex computing matter.

Not only that, the dispatch system company can charge a fee per transaction for providing this service on top of the uusual charges they do now.

I am not sure on the legality in relation to merchant services and if the dispatch system becomes another type of business as well as simply a dispatch firm but I am sure there is a business model that can be feasible.

I take a card payment today, in my bank account next working day via cab:app - not a PH Despatch system I know, but as a Taxi driver does me fine.

Hi Helen,

It seems you and your company have a lot of experience in private hire in London, good stuff... Do you know who did the development for Addison Lee and migrate them from ROCS before you guys offered support service? Greentomatocars - another great company, I remember they were on Cordic but replaced it... Who is their current software vendor?

D.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your enquiry. Our company actually did the development work for Addison Lee. Sherlock is owned and developed by Haulmont Technology, the company who built Addison Lee's proprietary system as well. Our Business Unit Director for Sherlock, Mike Tobin, was actually the Ops Director at Greentomatocars when they switched from Cordic. He purchased Magenta Echo for the company as he wasn't able to buy Sherlock at the time - we would be happy to discuss this in a bit more detail off forum if you would like. My email address is he@haulmont.com.

Thanks
Helen

A little bit of gossip about Magenta, which I haven't tried but have read their promises.

It only works with a PH fleet, you cannot do street hires on it.

If you want to leave then you are on a 12 month rolling contract, however somewhere in the contract it says you have to give 6 months notice before that.

Apparently Magenta did something with the street hires as I can see GoGreenTaxis now have their apps at google/apple store, and previously they had autocab? Can't comment on contract terms though.

You were quick off the mark though, only took you 10 months to spot it. =D>
