Taxi Driver Online

Does anybody know any facts on child seats, we are getting asked for them more and more.
So many different types and so many different sizes of kids.

i quick walk through halfords or mothercare will send you head in a spin with all the different types you can get. i think 'what car' magazine recently did a review of a dozon or so. we got a couple in the office we can use but they are a pain in the arse to fit in.
a women and child got in my car just last week and she had her own. it was a simple fit and was held in by the front seat belt (which it was designed to do) i should have make a note of the make.

i get more child seat passengers (10-12 over the last year) that i do disabled passengers with wheel chairs (none the last 2 years).

This is a big problem that will cost someone a lot of cash some time in the future.

The law is quite clear that all little ones should be strapped up, but how many hundreds of thousands aren't each year, in both HC and PH vehicles?

The firm I work with have a few permanently in the office, just in case anyone needs them.

Mainly for long distance work, because with the local work the customer isn't going to pay for you to go back to the office, pick it up, and then do the job.

Although that does have it plus points.

The Volvo has a child seat built in in some models. Quite clever too.

Try asking your Council to provide some at your cost. (Its called passing the buck).

its probably not in anyones best interest, but we advised our members not to supply the seats to passengers.

basically by supplying a babyseat you are possibly moving into thorny ground so far as your liability in the event of an accident go's.

I would advise you check into your insurance before offering the seats, may seem like a pain , but could save you in the long run.

On the subject of wheelchairs there is a government sponsored study out at the moment, looking into the suitablility of transporting them with passengers in taxis.

Without boring everybody there are over 200 different types of chair and almost half are no good for transportation in taxis.

The findings of the study will be out later this year.
