Master atlas of greater london if you do not already know
These navigtion thingie are fine outside London but they simply can not keep up with the changes in the centre quick enough. One of my drivers had some package which took him with a punter on board the wrong way down a one way street
More trouble than they are worth I would say. Ok for outside London, and Ok inside London If you know your way around, here begs the question if you know your way around In London then why do need this
Regards Eric

Kind regards eric ![]() http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3531724.stm http://www.allinlondon.co.uk/news/index.php?news_id=531 "The Knowledge" solves the "London Dilemma!" Got an important meeting or interview and can't find the building? Stuck in traffic and have to get somewhere in a hurry? Caught in a one-way system? Need to find a car park? Lost in London and need directions? These are all examples of "the London Dilemma" which everyone who lives, works or visits London experiences from time to time. "The Knowledge" has the solution to the "London Dilemma". Using all the skill and experience of licensed London taxi drivers, "The Knowledge" provides directions and live navigation to anyone who is lost in London, looking for a car park or short cut or simply trying to find somewhere. Recent research published in The Sunday Times reveals that, at any one time, at least 1 in 4 motorists in London are either lost or looking for a parking space. By dialing 090 62 65 65 65* callers will be connected to a "virtual call centre" which puts them through to a licensed London taxi driver (who won't be driving in his cab at the time) who can provide directions or information about where places are and how to get there. They stay on the line for as long as callers need ** and all calls are recorded so that you can listen back to the information should you forget any of it. The service is available 24 hours a day. So now, if ever you are lost in London, you can tap into the "Knowledge"which London taxi drivers have in their heads, having trained and driven for years to obtain. No-one in the world knows London as well as London taxi drivers. One of "The Knowledge" taxi drivers has taken part in a race from Putney Bridge to King's Cross between a car with satellite navigation and a London taxi driver. The taxi driver won! Now you need never be stuck in London again. All you need is a mobile phone to avoid the embarrasment of being late, the disappointment of not being able to find somewhere, or the frustration of being stuck in traffic or unable to park. "The Knowledge" gets you there! To find out more visit the official website at: www.theknowledge.com * This is a premium rate telephone number costing £1 per minute from a BT landline. Calls from mobiles and other networks may vary. ** (up to a maximum of 30 minutes in any one call) I'll do it for 50p a minute.

Thanks for the replies, fellas. Since I started as PHD just 10 days ago, and I know only my area (Woolwich, greenwich, charlton, plumstead; ie... south east London), I'll buy either TomTom500 or XDA Sony. Regarding The Knowledge, I'll get there in 5-10-50 years maybe.
Cheers |

Dont think I need to pay £1.00 per minute to find out I am lost though
That never happens to me 23 years motor cycle courier in central London before Chauffering, the Knowledge would be a piddle for me, but given a choice, which I have, I would rather ferry around nice people in nice shiney Merc than run around in one of those noisy uncomfortable box's they call Taxi's
