What appears to be a firmware issue in the core processor of many of the older Samsung J1 and J3 devices has caused their GPS to completely stop working. The problem started about the 9th of this month and is not just here but right across the world.

Samsung no longer supports these devices, so there's no fix and the only option is to obtain a more up to date device. At this point we don’t know if other brands that use the same processor might be suffering the similar problem.

This is an important heads up to all taxi drivers. If you have one of these older devices and the GPS has stopped then don’t try to replace it with the same old type otherwise, you’ll be back to square one within a couple of days.

The first J3 came out in 2016. Can't believe that Samsung has washed their hands with them. [-(

Ithink Firmware issue in older Samsung J1 and J3 devices causing GPS failure. No fix available yet as Samsung no longer supports these devices. I consider upgrading to a newer device. Other brands with the same processor is also affected.

It’s a year down the line since I posted that, and it seems Ozzy didn’t notice the date. Anyway, as it happens the problem turned out to be an out-of-date licence on a single Samsung server somewhere on the planet. It took them over a month to correct the problem but by them most people had changed their devices.
Technology, don’t you just love it.
