Bought a nice bright red one in August. By 14,000 miles needed new back brakes and three new tyres. Is that the norm? Flyer |

Thats about the norm - if its Diesel just wait til you hit the 80k mark and then watch the garage bills mount up it should be due both fuel filters and a clutch by then  happy motoring!

Bit bad stereotyping all fords as crap really. My old dad had a petrol mark 3 granny on private hire and was still going strong on 250,000 miles on original engine, box etc etc. This doesn't have buggerall to do with this topic, sorry lol

Mine is a 05 plate. Has had loads of pads back and front, loads of tyres, but I still like it. |

At 22000 needed new back brakes again, and a set of front brakes. Still I like it. |

My Passat has done 26,000 and the brakes haven't been touched yet. I know a driver who has a VW Touran and she got 50,000 before needing pads. So two sets of pads in 22,000 seems a bit much. I haven't had a car with rear discs before, but I would expect the front to wear quicker? I replaced the front tyres just last week, so I can't see how you could need three new tyres at 14,000. I hope to get 40-50,000 out of the rear tyres. |

I had a puegeot 406 D as a private car some years ago and the front tyres went every 12/14000 miles, apparently it is down to the weight of the engine, diesels being heavier. I should imagine as a taxi you are trying to turn in tight spots instead of three point turning, in that case you are going to shed some rubber. |

i am just getting rid of a late 2002 estate diesel 130bhp with 136k miles first injector went at 26k and since then has been back in at least 7 or 8 times to either have them reset or replaced also had 2 turbo pipes. a new clutch and flywheel at 60 k and the crankshaft pulley has just been done for the second time. apart from that rear calipers can be a problem and the track-in seems to need doin every few weeks thanks to our driver friendly speed humps. i have owned fords all my life my first one being an anglia and this has been the worst car for reliabillity that i have ever had the misfortune to own think carefully dave |

Car is nearly a year old now. 40,000 miles. Four sets of back brakes. New dual mass fly wheel. New starter motor. New gear-box sensor. New clutch bearing. New rear wheel bearing. All the five above free on warrenty. Would have cost over a 1000 pounds otherwise

Its time you got shot, and get yourself a Skoda octavia A5 or superb You can have my 03 plate superb with 290k only on its second clutch, front pads 30k rear 50k tyres front 38k rear 50k oil every 20k yours for £5,500 and full DSH, Or if you need a bit more luggage room I have a KIA Caren's 05 plate 80k still with unlimited warranty until April next year for £6000 full DSH both will come with meter and sign and certificate of compliance |
