Since having my all singing all dancing Cygnus camera fitted, my sat nav is playing up, it will not come on unless I switch it on outside the car and the colours on the screen are not the same, does anyone else have this problem and is there a cure.

Hi
I would go straight back to the people that supplied the cam system and show them that there is an issue. They can easily test and confirm if the cam is causing issues to the satnav.

Funny things can happen with equipment getting installed in vehicles unfortunately but I would take think that they might have seen this issue before. If they have fitted enough cams that is.

regards

I would start with however sold you the cam and see what they suggest you do, but I fear you might be stuck in the middle.

Radioman, Isn't a deguassing poroblem?

Like when you put a magnet near a tv? I'm just guessing here but if the camera is giving off emf (?) that would mess the satnav screen up. I'm sure Cygnus would know

Hi
Thats why I am suggesting to contact Cygnus, if they are selling a lot of cams then this problem would have/should have came up before.

It will be interesting to see what Cygnus or the fitters say........ I look forward to hearing their replies

Nope, there are so many things that radiate RF waves these days. I remember a few years back that a data unit was not working, nothing we did helped. So we stripped the whole kit out, rewired and still not logging in.

Test kit in another car, no problem at all. We listened to the data channel and could hear a pulse noise.....??? Hmmm.

So started pulling fuses out of every bit of kit in the car. Evenutally the problem was traced to the taxi meter, it was radiating noise. So driver got a replacement meter and everything worked well.

Two of the worse case of interferance was

1. Voice radio channel lots of noise, cant hear drivers. Evenutally problem traced to a faulty CCTV camera outside the front window.

2. Data channel not working correctly. Again checked everything then noticed the noise in the back ground, not that noticiable at first but it caused a lot of signal hash so if your signal was low it would not get thru.

We checked everything we could think of. Then asked has anything new been installed in the building recently? The answer was YES, we had a new cola vending machine fitted. Rushed downstairs pulled the plug on the vending computer and the problem went away. It was evenutally traced to a faulty coin mech.

Oh the joys of it all.

regards

We had a good one a couple of months back where the GPS just wouldn’t work. Every single bit of the kit had been changed but still it just refused to go. Eventually it was realized that it wasn’t just this car that wasn’t working but also any car that parked within twenty foot of it also stopped working. The problem turned out to be the domestic radio in the car radiating and blocking the GPS frequencies because someone had removed the screening covers to make it fit the dash.

As the saying goes, all the faults are simple, it’s just finding the bloody things that’s hard.

Bill :)
