fitting fire extinguisher in mondeo

Post subject:  fitting fire extinguisher in mondeo
Does anyone have an opinion as to the best place to fit a fire extinguisher in a Mondeo please.

I think some attach it with a bracket down the side of the drivers door. While most let it roll around the boot.
But why the flip do we need the things?
If there is a fire surely we should get the hell out of the car, and not open the bonnet or boot and make the situation worse.
Ask firemen what you should do and 100% of them will say ring 999.

Thanks for that Guest. I have been told that rule for the fire extinguisher is about to end, there will be no need to carry one. Alas not quite in time for me.

Fix it in the passenger front,beside the door,this will give the a--holes,something else to steal,or bop you over the head for the dosh.
In the same frame of mind,what the hell would we do if the cab went on fire,stand with a poxy extinguisher and try to put it out.No way hosie.

Maybe better wee weeing on the fire,but with my one,can only dribble on me boots.
Just run.

Go to local builders merchant buy a very small bag of fine sand, put the sand in a red bag and write "fire" on it. That is just as effective as any small fire extinguisher, it never runs out of date is easily stored under the seat. Nothing states you have to have a proprietory extinguisher, it's just another rip off and as all fire officers will tell your in the hands of an untrained person a spray type of extinguisher is likley to cause more harm than good. In case of fire call 999 and get everyone including yourself to a place of safety.

Where we are there are very strict rules about the type of extinguisher we need to have in the car (it needs a gauge on it ) if we are found with out one that meets the councils specifications we are taken off the road :sad:

Couldn't agree more, if my car went up I'd get out of the way VERY quickly, after making sure any passengers did too of course :wink: :wink:

My hubby, who is a driver too BTW, thinks a pair of wire cutters would be more useful :)

Lift up the left hand corner of the boot carpet and there's a handy ridge on the boot floor which takes my extinguisher quite nicely.

I think there's also something sticking up that stops the extinguisher rolling out from the corner, but in any case when you put the carpet back down it holds it nicely in place.

Obviously this wouldn't work if your authority requires the extinguiser to be properly fixed, but it's worked for me for over five years :)

Our Council requires the fitment of Fire Extinguishing "systems" that include smoke alarms, and fire detection equipment. We therefore use the Diplomat system for this. In the event of a fire, the system uses sprinklers to wet the inside of the car, BCF gas in the engine compartment, and ejects the passengers through the roof to ensure they are safe. When at 200 feet up, a parachute extends which brings them safely back to earth. Meanwhile, the Data system transmits a digitally coded signal to the fire brigade, and our insurance company, and files the appropriate reports with the Council and all statutory authorities. Simultaneously, the system calls up another cab, and useing terrain computer matching and GPS, gets a relief cab into position directly beneath the descending passengers parachutes. The system will by default select a cabriolet (we have had problems when none are available and a double deck bus has been allocated), into which the passengers can land comfortably, and continue their journey as though nothing had happened. The metered fare on the by now burning taxi, has been data dumped back into the system and recomences on the meter of the new car just as the passengers arrive in it.

Meanwhile, the system has already completed an insurance claim form, and arranged a free hire car (usually a Fiat Doblo) for the driver of the by-now burnt out wreck.

Although the system isnt finished yet (Jason is still working on the final algoreyrythms) Diplomat have promised that it will be fully operational soon.

Meanwhile, get rid of the Mondeo by letting it burn. This will be far cheaper than putting a new clutch in it. And, with the insurance money, buy a new Focus.

Well I'm dumping the Mondeo once its done twice round the clock, so no need for a new clutch.

I find this post very hard to believe, " Jason is still working" surley not.
Is Diplomat a real company, does it really exist outside of this forum ?

Is it a new shape Mondeo or an old one? I've just got a nice shiny (at the mo) new one and there is a bracket in the boot to put a warning triangle in, I put the extinguisher bracket in that and clipped the extinguisher in place. Job sorted no rattling around the boot and its safe :D

unfortunatley our dear mr preece i think would rather the car burn than see one of his drivers weeing out the fire, safest place is in the boot like a lorry really thier fire extinguisher is only enough for a wheel fire but the location of the fire is usually started by brakes binding from the discs are u going to attempt to put that out good luck if your going to try
