youve got taxipay or journey pay that use via the phone. ive got taxipay on one of my phones it works ok but the old type imprinter you use to copy the card and get signed is a bit naff ,so went back to silvercab a terminal which is a lot better but it costs. i think every driver should have at least the phone system set up. even for a couple of jobs a year. it cost nothing to set up so youve nothing to lose but you can accept cards

The other problem with using the mobile phone to take payment or the imprinter (zip-zap) is it is not a guaranteed transaction and not CHIP and Pin verified so the customer can charge it back to their account and there is nothing you can do to fight that if it happens. The only way to to make a secure transaction is to use a CHIP and Pin machine. You don't need your own merchant account either if you go to www.SilverPay.co.uk

No credit card payment is guaranteed to be paid. The customer only has to say they were never in the area and you have a problem.

Just ask any card processing company, they will tell you that no payment is guaranteed. The "I was not in the area " ploy is just one of many used by "proffesional" card scammers.

"I was not in the area" doesn't stand where a PIN has been used in the machine.

No but my card has been cloned because I have never been to wherever works. It happens all the time.

I've started using that. Quite satisfied with the first two transactions.

That does seem a cheap and simple way of using credit cards to boost work.

But is the surcharge allowed to be added to an in area job? :?

Don't know about that one, it's the same when you go into a shop and you see a sign saying, "all credit card transactions under £10 will be subject to a surcharge". Can it be the same thing??

I think this was discussed on here a couple of weeks ago. The outcome if I remember correctly, was provided that you will take cash at the metered rate or below then if a customer chooses to pay by card you can add a surcharge. If the only way to pay is by card then you can't add a surcharge.
