Anyone know anything about the system/company?

They were at the Sandown show, and I like the whole idea of the hand held displays.

But I will let someone else try it out first. However if it works on a larger scale, then they may well be on to a winner.

It sounds very similar to Mobisoft.

Their system is well established in Finland and is truely impressive BUT they cannot currently compete with PMR in this country because the costing of it is 'ridiculous' in their opinion. And I don't disagree with them.

However we are now at the stage where ever driver has a mobile, so the linking into that has got to become more cost effective, interesting times.

Memo to myself, get up to Cambridge and have a look.

Back to those hand-held things. I'm starting to query exactly how good they would be on a large circuit.

If it's mobbed out, you wonder just how easy it's going to be to contact the office, without a radio. What happens if you get a no show/job. Will you have to text the office to say so?

What happens if the punters want another car? Again will you have to text the office, and how long will it take for the girls to decipher your text?

You surely wont be able to all ring the office, cos if that happened then the punters will never be able to get through.

Or have I missed something?

the hand held things give you access to the computer, want another car? book the job in, no show? tell the computer.

about disipering text it does not happen and maybe the gorl wont even see it the job automaticaly going on another taxi.

soon the girl will be surplus to requirements (or there to brewthe tea?

Having seen the state that pretty tough radios / data heads get into after a few months in a cab, what chance has an XDA or similar got of surviving the enviroment?

I tell you what would be nice, and that's if sometime in the future all the lads and lasses had these palm tops. Because then they will be able to log into, and post on TDO, 24 hours a day.

Most certainly they will, which is why we can't and won't rest on our laurels. What gives us confidence is that our product set has some unique features that we know existing PMR based solutions can't hope to copy - even if they were to try and slap a mobile digital terminal onto an existing DOS or Access based backend.

You have to face up to market facts.

PMR is so cheap and this industry is so 'cheapskate'.

Current GPRS communication is 'patchy' to say the least.

From my experience data downloads are ponderously.

Big fleets won't be able to cope with the sort of web-based speeds available for quite a while.
