My lad is looking to start out on private hire. Do any of you know which taxi insurance companies would insure him at 22? He's been driving 2 years, but this is his first time on the taxis. He's aware that it won't be cheap, but he doesn't know which companies to try. Any younger drivers here with advice please?

I deal with this company, based in Aberdeen, but cover all UK, https://www.hrinsurance.co.uk/motor_vehicle/taxi_public_private_hire.asp and through them Sabre Insurance. They've never been beaten on price, for me, for the last 5 years. Decent cover and excess as well.

I'm 25, and pay £2,900 (I was 24 when it was taken out) fully comp for mine, so I reckon about £4,000 at 22 sounds about right.

Had a quote a couple of months back for a new badge holder aged 22 - upwards of £7,000. Obtained another quote today from a different company, none of the details have changed - just under £4,000! Shop around!

I wasn't suggesting anyone would do it deliberately. Fronting happens inadvertently sometimes, simply because many drivers aren't even aware that there's anything wrong in trying to get a cheaper premium for their children this way. Just trying to raise awareness.
