Ok I'm trying to do my online SA. In the 2009/2010 year I worked part time for about 2 months, ie sat night and maybe a tuesday night, as a PH driver. I just drove the car and got to take a third of whatever the meter said. The company owned the car and the radio and put fuel in the car and paid all the bills. This system suited me, but my question is should I describe that as a self employed business on the SA form ? if it's not a business then what is it ? tia |

if it's not a business then what is it ? You are self-employed as no-one else is paying your tax for you. The business name is 'Flash Gordon' Private Hire Driver. |

There's possibly a theoretical argument for saying that you're actually employed, but you'd probably have to go to court to prove it. So probably best to do what everyone else does and do as Sussex describes. |
