Started this morning with a quote of £2900 and handed over card details to someone later who would do it for £1500, very pleased with myself! Well worth ringing around and mentioning the DSA taxi test as it gets you an extra discount and they accepted my NCB from my private car (2 years).

Will be going thru policy with a fine toothed comb when it arrives as I can't believe I got it so low...

I enquired through taxi-direct.co.uk and was contacted by their parent company groupdirect.co.uk

I'd be well happy with a quote of 1500. I'm 27, had my badge for 1 year, and the best i've been quoted so far is 2700. (Been driving for someone else for a year, covered on their insurance)

Will try the companies listed above but any other recomendations would be appreciated.

I take it the firm you work with don't have a fleet policy?

Not that I'm aware of.

Introductory discounts are not as generous as they used to be. Be aware that if you submit no claims bonus earned on a car it will not be transferred on a like for like basis. In most cases you will need to assign the car NCB to the new taxi policy in exchange for an enhanced introductory bonus. In most cases at first renewal, subject to no claims, you will only have earned a 1 year taxi NCB even after submitting more NCB from an expired car Policy. Hope I've explained that OK.

There are a couple of companies that will give an introductory NCB where the car you have been driving has been covered under a fleet policy and the fleet owner is prepared to write a letter confirming you have driven for a full year (i.e. not 11 months and 2 weeks!) without claim. You would need a note of the insurance company name and policy number stated in the letter. If you have been driving under a policy where the cab owner only has one taxi, ask if you can talk to his broker as the company that insured the vehicle you were a named driver on may give you an intuductory discount as they can see your history.

DSA test does also help with some companies too.
