Does anyone know of any insurance companies that offer PH insurance quotes for 3 or 6 months? Suspect this will be one for 2 jobs. Are there any newbies who've had competitive quotes for their first year? Any advice appreciated. |

I am told that two companies offer weekly insurance, but I don't know who they are. You could try constructing a question in google. |

Thanks for the reply. I have searched google; there have been a few that claim to offer monthly insurance and I will be contacting them tomorrow. However, was hoping people on here may have further suggestions. |

I could, however I am just about to branch out with my own car after driving a company car for a year. The way work is round here (poor) I want to give it a few months to see how I get on. |

If you pay over 10 months and decide after 5 the trade is not for you, then you just cancel the insurance and pay no-more. |

I did not realise that was possible. I thought that if I bought a years insurance, I was legally bound to pay for the year and that failure to do so would impact my credit rating. |

Although I think it's at the discretion of the insurers to allow annual policies to be cancelled mid-term and thus no more payments are due or a refund is available, I don't think there's any legal obligation in this regard. Thus while in practice the driver may not lose out, in theory the insurer can demand the whole year's worth. |

I think you will find it better to get an annual policy and pay monthly with a view to cancelling if its not working for you. BUT you need to watch for early termination fees. You cannot assume that what you have paid month by month will be sufficient to cover the "time on risk" charge from the insurance co. However there are some insurance companies that charge "pro rata" less a modest fee on cancellation of an annual policy. Service Policies are one of them. In most instances the monthly instalment plan is effectively a loan entirely separate from the insurance policy. I think Westminster will still offer a 3 month policy and I think Sabre still do. However in my expereince short period policies have always be proportionately more expensive. Try www.quotiva.com |

Thanks for the responses. I have tried Quotivia (got their details from a previous thread) and they contacted me with my most competitve quote yet of £2.5k. Still, better than the 4-5k quotes I've been getting elsewhere. Who or What are Service Policies and how can I contact them? |

Service are an insurance company and have several agents throughout the country. Best bet is to ask the people who have quoted you what the cancllation terms are on the policy they are recommending. They are oblidged to provide this information in detail. Good luck. |

Just a quick update, I managed to obtain PH insurance for a few quid under 2k eventually after ringing around about 20 companies. Paying monthly adds on a few hundreds worth of interest but as I don't know how this is all going to work out for me, it was better than stumping up 2 grand only to potentially knock this on the head after a few months! So far going good, working evenings/nights, work is obviously not spectacular but it's enough for me at the moment! |
